What is the difference between IP code and SPS code? ›

Answer: The mandatory new IP Code is based on the non-mandatory Code of Safety for Special Purpose Ships (2008 SPS Code), but with adaptations and provisions also for the training of industrial personnel, safe personnel transfer and carriage of dangerous goods.

The SOLAS amendments and the IP Code will come into force on 1 July 2024. The IP Code is applicable to ships above 500 GT operating internationally that carry at least one Industrial Personnel among a total of more than 12 individuals, including Industrial Personnel, Special Personnel, and passengers.

IMO Code means the Code of Practice published by the International Maritime Organisation on the International Maritime Dangerous Goods.

1.2 The SPS Code provides an appropriate level of safety for those ships and the persons carried, as well as the valuable and beneficial operational flexibility needed to address those scenarios.

The IP code or ingress protection code indicates how well a device is protected against water and dust.

An IP ingress rating of 0 means no protection. The ingress protection meaning of IP1X is solid objects greater than 50 mm. The IEC 60529 test standard considers a rating of IP2X as protection from solid objects greater than 12.5 mm. IP3X means IP ingress protection against solid objects greater than 2.5 mm.

An IP address is a string of numbers separated by periods. IP addresses are expressed as a set of four numbers — an example address might be 192.158.1.38. Each number in the set can range from 0 to 255. So, the full IP addressing range goes from 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255.

What are the numbers in IMO code? ›

The Number consists of seven digits assigned by IHS Maritime. The label begins with the letters "IMO" followed by either "Company" or "Registered Owner", then, followed by the seven digits. Once assigned, the Number remains unchanged for a company and/or registered owner.

The III Code expects one of the performance indicators to reflect responses to port state deficiencies or interventions, and another to reflect results of inspections. It follows that there is an expectation that the flag state will monitor the performance of its ships in the port state control field.
