The IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations incorporate all of the Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) technical instructions into the IATA manual and add requirements that are more restrictive.
Your training certification must come from IATA standards to comply with the DOT’s regulations. Most air carriers will not accept dangerous goods shipments that do not meet these additional restrictions, so shippers must comply with the IATA rules. You can ship confidently according to IATA’s guidelines, which are updated every year for quality assurance.
How Does This IATA Online Training Course Work?
Our online IATA dangerous goods training course is designed to be completed in approximately four to five hours. After registering for the course, you’ll work through the training online at your own pace. You can come and go as necessary, so you won’t need to complete the course in one sitting. If questions arise while you’re working on your course, you can get assistance from an online instructor at any time.
You’ll have 60 days to complete the course and pass the exam at the end before you’ll need to renew your subscription. This amount of time is more than enough for most people to confidently receive their certification. Once you complete the course and pass your exam, you’ll receive your IATA Hazmat shipping certification immediately, so you can get to work sooner.

The US DOT allows shippers to follow the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations if part or all of the shipment is shipped by air. IATA training course is required for all persons who transport dangerous goods according to IATA DGR 1.5.
International Air Transport Association regulations require that aircraft operator employees and anyone involved in shipping hazardous materials by air receive an IATA Hazmat shipping certification before they can transport dangerous goods by airplane. As a result, anyone involved in the air transport of dangerous goods — including shippers, ground service providers, freight forwarders and airline workers — must receive some dangerous goods shipping training. Training is especially important because breaking IATA requirements may result in heavy fines and citations for the carrier involved.
Most airlines will require parties to comply with IATA regulations before they accept any shipment of dangerous goods. Therefore, if you or your company ships hazardous materials by air for any reason, domestically or internationally, you may need an IATA Hazmat shipping certification.
