Did you get scammed on Cash App? If you act quickly, there are ways to help protect yourself and possibly get your money refunded. Here's what to do if you get scammed on Cash App.
What To Do After You're Scammed
Cash App won't always refund your money; disputes are usually resolved by the card network used in the transaction. To dispute a transaction, navigate to your profile and tap Support → Payments → Dispute a Payment → Start a Dispute.

Cash App will not always refund your money. When a scam is reported, the Cash App team will investigate the disputed transactions and, if deemed necessary, escalate the dispute with the card network used during the transaction. However, Cash App does not guarantee refunds in these situations—the card network will ultimately resolve these disputes.

1
Cancel the Cash App payment. Cash App transactions are often instant, so you may not be able to do so. However, if the payment is pending, you may be able to cancel it. Do the following:
- Open Cash App.
- Tap the Activity tab.
- Select the scam transaction.
- Tap Cancel.
- If there is no option for cancellation, Cash App has already processed the transaction.
2
Report an issue to get a refund. This method involves requesting a refund from the scammer, which likely won't work, but it's worth a try. If the scammer does not resolve the transaction, you can file a dispute. Do the following:
- Open Cash App.
- Tap the Activity tab.
- Select the scam transaction.
- Tap Completed.
- Tap Report an issue.
- Select a reason.
- Tap Next to confirm.
3
File a dispute for the transaction. When you file a dispute, the Cash App team will become involved. They will investigate your claim and the scammer. Once all the facts are gathered, the dispute will be sent to the card network, who will make the final decision. Do the following:
- Open Cash App.
- Tap your profile.
- Tap Support.
- Tap Payments.
- Tap Dispute a Payment.
- Tap Start a Dispute.[1]
- Once a transaction is disputed, you'll be notified via email throughout the process.
4
Flag the transaction as a scam. If you've yet to get a refund from the previous methods, you can report the transaction as a scam. Do the following:
- Open Cash App.
- Tap your profile icon.
- Tap Support.
- Tap Report a Payment Issue.
- Select the scam transaction.
- Follow the remaining prompts.
5
Flag the Cash App user. If the scammer is using the same Cash App account to scam other people, you can report and block them. Do the following:
- Open Cash App.
- Navigate to the user's profile.
- Scroll down and tap Report.
- Follow the remaining prompts.
6
Contact your bank to notify them of fraud. If you suspect fraudulent activity, you need to notify your card issuer. Most banks have an online app with representatives you can speak to via chat. Otherwise, call your bank or card issuer's customer service phone number and notify them of the fraudulent charges. They may conduct their own investigation or work with the Cash App team.
7
Freeze your credit to stop other purchases. If your Cash App account has been compromised, scammers may have access to the financial information stored in your account. In this case, you can freeze your credit to prevent scammers from opening accounts using your information.
8
Contact the Federal Trade Commission to report fraud. The FTC uses reports to investigate common scams and shares them with law enforcement to prevent future incidents. You can report scams through the FTC website.
