Each Google Account includes 15 GB of storage, which is shared across Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos. To add to your storage quota, you can purchase a Google One membership, where available. Occasionally, you may receive more storage from a special promotion or related purchase.

If your storage plan is canceled or expires

If you cancel your storage plan, you'll lose all additional storage for your account. At the end of your billing cycle, you may be over quota.

Every Google Account comes with 15 GB of storage for Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos. When you subscribe to Google One, your total storage increases to 100 GB or more depending on the plan you choose. You also get Google Photos editing features and more — which you can share with up to 5 other people.

When your account reaches its storage limit: You can't sync or upload new files. You can't create new files in Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, Forms, or Jamboard. Until you reduce the amount of storage you use, neither you nor anyone else can edit or copy your affected files.

After you upgrade, your Google One membership replaces your current Drive storage plan. Google One members get even more storage space, plus exclusive benefits and family plan sharing.

If you delete your plan, you keep everything you store in Google Photos, Drive, and Gmail. You only delete data about your Google One plan, like settings and support chats.

You're also exempted from the deletion of your photos and videos if you have an active Google One membership with no outstanding payment or quota issues. If you're inactive in Google Photos for 2 years or more, your content may be deleted from Google Photos.

If a user frequently sends or receives emails with large attachments, it can contribute to the storage quota being used up more quickly. Old Emails and Spam: If a user doesn't regularly delete or archive old emails, especially those with large attachments, their storage space can fill up over time.

Eligibility: Every Google Workspace Individual account will get free 1TB cloud storage. Users don't have to do anything. The upgrade will happen automatically. Note that the storage increase from 15GB to 1TB will impact customers with Google Workspace Individual accounts.

On Tuesday, June 1, we'll start rolling out this change so that any new photos and videos you back up will count toward the free 15GB of storage that comes with every Google Account or the additional storage you've purchased as a Google One member.

What happens to my emails when I run out of storage? ›

Gmail. If you run out of storage space, this may happen in Gmail: You can't send or receive messages. People who send messages to you may receive a notification that the message cannot be delivered.

After 2 years of exceeding the limit, your content may be removed, but Google will notify you and give you the opportunity to avoid deletion by purchasing more storage or removing files. You must pay every month in order to keep using your storage. Regarding important documents storage, Google does not offer lifetime storage. Google only offers Monthly and Annual payments.

If you look at it as solely a cloud storage purchase, then it's likely worth that monthly cost. However, if you don't think you'll use that 100 GB to the point of getting good use out of it, you have to look at the Google One benefits alone. Are you going to use those Google Photos features consistently?

Account Inactivity

If you're over your storage limit for 2 years or longer or if you don't free up or purchase more space to get back under your storage limit, all of your content may be removed from Gmail, Google Photos, and Google Drive (this includes Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, Forms, and Jamboard files).

You need a Google One subscription for each of your accounts. Just so there's no misunderstanding, there is NO permanent storage. Your storage only lasts for as long as you pay for it. If you pay for a year, you can use the storage for a year.

You will no longer be able to synchronize or access your data from your local computer. But, rest assured all the data will remain safe inside the cloud storage. None of the data will be deleted from your cloud storage account and you can still access all your files without any problem.

Under the terms of the new policy, Google offers a baseline of 100TB of pooled storage shared across all users. The policy shift was spurred, Google says, because “as we've grown to serve more schools and universities each year, storage consumption has also rapidly accelerated.
