Hexnode UEM checks for VPP app updates from the App Store daily at 7:00 am UTC. If any available updates to the VPP apps are detected, it automatically pushes them to the devices at 10:00 am UTC. These updates will be silently installed on the devices without any user interventions.
Notes:
VPP app updates will be automatically pushed to the devices only if the Mandatory Apps policy via which the app was initially deployed is still associated with the device.
The updates will not be automatically pushed to the devices if the VPP apps are added to the devices via Install Application under Actions. To deploy the updated version of a VPP app in such devices, navigate to Manage > Devices > select devices > Actions > Install Application. Then, select the required VPP apps and click Done.
Behavior of VPP app updates
The VPP app updates are silently pushed to supervised iOS and tvOS devices, whereas unsupervised devices will prompt the user to initiate the installation.
Suppose the apps are being used when the updates are pushed to the devices. Some apps may not get the updates if they are in use, while others may require to be stopped to start the installation. Sometimes the updates may automatically run in the background.
Check VPP app updates manually
You can also manually check for VPP app updates from the Hexnode app repository.
On your Hexnode UEM console, navigate to Apps.
Select the License Type as VPP from the Filter Apps menu.
Click on the app to check for any updates.
Click on Settings (gear icon) on the top-right corner of the App detail box and then click Check for updates.
If an update is available, the app will get updated automatically. Otherwise, it will display that no updates are available.
To deploy the updated version of a VPP app in such devices, navigate to Manage > Devices > select devices > Actions > Install Application.Then, select the required VPP apps and click Done.
Navigate to Device Mgmt on the MDM console and click on App Repository. All the apps added to MDM are listed here. On clicking the App name, you can find granular details about the app such as the app version, the devices on which the app is present as well as details about app updates and app licenses.
In order to update the app, you must: close the app, initiate a sync, and leave the device unlocked while the app updates. It is not recommended to assign VPP apps to Kiosk-mode devices using user licensing.

In the 'Managed Distribution' section, click the 'Download Token' link. Login to SimpleMDM. Navigate to Apps > VPP. Click 'Renew' next to the VPP organization name.
