My little Maddux {3 now} was a binky addict. I mean he was super attached. From two on we were able to keep it on the bed so he only had it at nap time and bedtime. I wish we would have just taken it away at two because it just got harder and harder. It was for sure more of a comfort thing than anything because most of the time it wasn't even in his mouth when he as asleep.

I was getting super nervous to take it away and how he would react. I knew I needed to do something, not just take it away. I needed a plan. So I researched it and asked around and nothing seemed to stick with me until I was talking to my sister in Law and she told me about the binky fairy. IT WORKED!

What is the Binky Fairy method you may ask? Well let me tell you about it. It is quite simple really.

You tell your little one that they are 3 now, or how ever old you are taking it away at, and it is time to be a big boy {or girl}. There are so many exciting things that you can do when you are a big boy {or girl}! You can go down slides by yourself, you can walk instead of riding in the stroller, you can help mommy, you can ride your strider bike, you can eat big boy food, you can go on the potty and a other fun things. Big boys don't have binkies, a binky is for a baby. Then you tell them that we are going to leave them for the Binky Fairy. You are going to put them all in the mail box, she is going to come and pick them up, fix them up, and give them to new little babies that need them. Then she is going to leave you a prize as a thank you. Then you tell them how sweet and nice they are and how proud of them you are. It really is as simple as that. I mean it wasn't all roses, we had some tantrums but it did work and I think it worked faster than if we would have just taken it away with no explanation. I believe toddlers need some explanation when change is coming just like you and me, they also could use some positive enforcement. He is my first and this is the first time I have ever had to deal with this, and I am learning just as much as he is, but I am going to call this one a success.

Maddux kissing his binkies bye bye. He was so sweet he kissed them and said I love you. It kinda melted my heart and I kinda felt bad. I may have shed a few tears, because my baby is getting so big, and really these binkies helped comfort him for his whole life. I was so proud of him.

Putting them in the mail box. He was very excited to do this by himself and to show everyone he was a big boy. He wanted to feel important, independent and that he was doing a good thing, not just getting something he loved taken away.

Then when he woke up from his first nap without his binky he ran outside to see if the Binky Fairy came. She left him a note and a prize.

He was so excited to get a Wreck it Ralph toy and gets to play with and sleep with him instead.

So now it has been three and a half weeks since we have taken it away and he is doing great. He doesn't even ask for it, or mention it anymore. Even his baby brothers binky doesn't phase him. The first few days were a little rough, I am not going to lie, and he would ask for it every time it was time to lay down. He even said a couple times that he would give the toy back if she would bring back his binkies. {smart little thing} Melt my heart. But we were all tough and didn't give in. He is doing well. He doesn't nap as well as he used to but he is getting better. Night is the hardest, but once he is asleep he is good. I am so proud of him and he doesn't even ask for it anymore. It was easier than I thought it would be for such a binky addict.

You can do it too! Try this method it was the best for us maybe it will work for you and your little one too. Pin it, try it, and let me know how it worked for your little binky addict!
