I have a 2019 Hyundai Kona which has support for Android Auto. You need to connect the smartphone via USB cable to activate it.
My wife does not like Hyundai's navigation system so I thought about using Google Maps via an unsused phone. Idea: the smartphone is permanently connected to the Hyuindai and can be used for navigation (it has an Internet connection).
My problem is that Android Auto establishes Bluetooth connection to the Car's system upon activating. I don't want that because I want to use my regular phone for calls.
What would be the easiest way to permanently disable Bluetooth on an Android smartphone? The phone could be rooted, there is LineageOS on it.

There is an option to keep Bluetooth off during Android Auto in the Android Auto settings on your phone. But I never tried that option.

I checked on Android Auto 7.8. It seems that Google removed this option.

I have been using AA for a long time on my Astra from 19 and unfortunately I have never seen an option to turn off BT. It always turned on automatically - which is a pity

Go into Android Auto on phone settings and turn off phone authorization. That will prevent it from automatically turning on bluetooth.

Can you dumb this down?
I don't seem to be able to find anything called phone authorization anywhere.
Thanks in advance!

Late to the party, but was having the same issue. I was able to disable it by going into Android Auto=>Start Android Automatically=>(select) If Used on Last Drive.
For whatever reason it restarted the app for setup thus allowing me to keep the Bluetooth from automatically turning on once I turned it off. Hopes this helps someone.

Hi,
First of all I tried above and failed…
I think that I found ultimate solution for problem that probably it will work for ALL CARS.
Solution mainly for Users that have dedicated phone/tablet for AA - all other users can use it but you have to remember to Disable BT in service disabler app before use CAR and enable it to use with other devices. But no longer AA will block your BT connection to car.
So I have Kadjar from 2014 and OLD phone REDMI NOTE 4 – so solution for both problems at once.
- FOR REDMI NOTE 4 to be able to use android auto
- You must update Android to version pixel.
- I did it via pixel experience website – most difficult part was unlocking boot loader from XIAOMI – but once I logged in rest was smooth.
- Read manual first but in general : Enable Usb Debbuging in programmers settings, Reboot with power and wolume DOWN, login to tool on xiaomi account and unlock device – more detail in MANUAL.
- Unlocking tool for Xiaomi
- https://en.miui.com/unlock/index.html
- Firmware
- https://get.pixelexperience.org/mido
- Manual :
- MAKING ANDROID AUTO NOT TO CONNECT TO BLUTOOTH
- I must mention that on KADJAR on Android Auto – audio works, music works like charm.
- And most important ! No BT connection is needed ! Unfortunately U need to root your device ☹ but…. It works!
- STEP1 – pair your phone as normal to AA – check if BT is connected, AA works – just normal happy user of AA
- STEP 2 - Unlock your bootloader – if you did that in last step – U don’t need it. Or need way to unlock your vendor.
- STEP 3 –Root your phone, I followed this manual BUT I didn’t need to use any stupid USB stick at all! – I put it on SD card just inserted to phone (not formatted on phone!)
- Allow install APK from unknown source in developer options,
- Download and install on phone.
- Then download it again on PC but SAVE AS file name with ZIP extension ON SD CARD in your PC or do it on phone SAVE IT/MOVE it to SD Card and rename it to ZIP
- Put that SD Card to phone, boot it holding Power+ Volume UP , until logo shows
- Chose recovery mode and chose saved ZIP file
- U are rooted
- STEP 4 – Download SERVICE DISABLER from Google Play store (FREE!)
- https://play.google.com/store/search?q=service disabler&c=apps&hl=en&gl=US
- Open app and go to System tab find Bluetooth enter it and on top switch ALL to OFF.
Now BT of phone/tablet is disabled and AA will work as usual without blocking connection to your BT in car ! And Android Auto won’t be able to turn it on again
PS I also disabled BT connection in developer options in AA but even with that he was connecting BT.
Maybe it matters but I don’t know
Regards
