What kind of questions do they put on the Georgia insurance test?

All of the Georgia insurance exam questions are multiple-choice. There are no fill-ins (no need to memorize) and no essay (no need to be ready to explain anything) questions.

For example:

How to Pass the Georgia Insurance Licensing Exam (3)

A multiple choice test will usually test heavily on definitions (terminology) and numbers (dollar amounts and number of days).

The exam is drawn from a large pool of questions – you will have a different set of questions than the person sitting next to you. If you retake the exam, expect to see very few of the questions repeated on the next exam. Students report that the exams vary greatly in terms of the number of questions on any given topic.

Students report that about 1/3 of the questions are terminology (definitional) questions, 1/3 are number/day questions, and 1/3 are questions where you have to apply the knowledge to reason through a practical situation (story problems – usually short).

What score do I need to pass the Georgia insurance exam?

There are 6 basic exams given Georgia – Life, Accident & Sickness, Property, Casualty, Adjuster and Public Adjuster. In Georgia, you can combine the exams for Property & Casualty (PC) and Life, Accident, Sickness (LAS). Georgia also has a Personal Lines exam for agents selling only personal policies (no commercial) such as homeowners and personal auto insurance.

In Georgia, you need a score of 70 to pass each exam. But, each exam consists of two parts – the “national” insurance section and the “state rules” section. You will need a score of 70 on each section – the two scores are not averaged together.

Are questions grouped by category?

Our students always want to know if the questions regarding indemnification (for example) are grouped together. No, questions and topics are randomly scrambled, but that never seems to be a problem for anyone.

*Personal checks and cash will not be accepted.

How many questions are on the Georgia insurance exam?

The Georgia license exam Test Content Outline (TCO) provided by Pearson VUE gives us the following breakdown for each exam:

The Georgia Property and Casualtyexam has 135 questions. The breakdown is 100 questions on national/general content and 25 questions on Georgia state-specific content + 10 pretest questions.

The Georgia PropertyOnlyexam has 95 questions. The breakdown is 50 questions on national/general content and 30 questions on Georgia state-specific content + 15 pretest questions.

The Georgia Casualty Onlyexam has 95 questions. The breakdown is 50 questions on national/general content and 30 questions on Georgia state-specific content + 15 pretest questions.

The Georgia Adjusterexam has 100 questions. The breakdown is 95 questions on national/general content and 5 questions on Georgia state-specific content.

The Georgia Public Adjusterexam has 100 questions. The breakdown is 95 questions on national/general content and 5 questions on Georgia state-specific content.

The Georgia Life, Accident and Sicknessexam has 135 questions. The breakdown is 100 questions on national/general content and 25 questions on Georgia state-specific content + 10 pretest questions (not scored).

The GeorgiaLifeOnlyexam has 95 questions. The breakdown is 50 questions on national/general content and 30 questions on Georgia state-specific content + 15 pretest questions.

The Georgia Accident & Sickness (Health)Onlyexam has 95 questions. The breakdown is 50 questions on national/general content and 30 questions on Georgia state-specific content + 15 pretest questions.

The GeorgiaPersonal Linesexam has 95 questions. The breakdown is 75 questions on national/general content and 15 questions on Georgia state-specific content + 5 pretest questions.

Pretest questions do not count towards your score. You will not know what questions are real or pre-test questions when taking your exam. It’s very possible the pre-test questions will not even be covered in the Test Content Outline. It’s very important to know that these pre-test questions will be in your exam so you don’t start second-guessing yourself when you see a question that you have no idea how to answer (make your best guess and stay calm!).

Where can I take the Georgia insurance exam?

How to Pass the Georgia Insurance Licensing Exam (5)

*Locations and schedules are subject to change. Please call 1-800-274-0488 for up-to-date information.

How do I sign up to take the Georgia insurance exam?

We recommend that you call Pearson VUE (the testing company) at 1-800-274-0488. Be sure to call at least 3 days in advance of the date you plan to take the exam. The earlier you sign up, the better your chances of getting the test date of your choice.

What if I fail the Georgia insurance exam?

If you fail the insurance license exam in Georgia you must wait 2 weeks before retaking the exam. You will be charged an additional test fee.

Note: A candidate who fails an exam can schedule a new exam within one day but must wait 14 days to retest after exam attempts one and two. A candidate must wait 60 days after the third exam attempt and any subsequent attempts. There is no limit to the number of attempts a candidate can make to take the same exam. However, candidates taking an online examination are allowed only two attempts per exam. All subsequent examination attempts will have to be taken at a Pearson VUE testing center. There are no exceptions to this rule.

How much is the Georgia insurance license fee?

The Georgia Department of Insurance charges $100 per license type (ex. Property & Casualty or Life, Accident & Sickness) plus a $20application fee.

How do I sign up for fingerprinting/background check and what is thefee?

After you have successfully passed your licensing examination and applied for you license you must complete a background check and fingerprint. See www.sircon.com/georgia for more information. The electronic fingerprint fee is $51-$52.75. (Georgia Pearson VUE Background Check Fingerprinting Procedure)

Which Georgia insurance test is the toughest?

Each insurance licensing exam presents its own challenge. Between Life and Accident & Sickness, students say that the Georgia Accident & Sickness insurance exam is the more difficult. Accident & Sickness insurance policies are simply more complicated than life insurance policies.

The Property insurance exam is easier than the Casualty insurance exam. Property insurance deals with easy to understand issues – fire, flooding, earthquake, etc. On the other hand, Casualty insurance deals primarily with Liability insurance – protection against lawsuits. Casualty insurance is a more conceptual topic and one that is more difficult for students to grasp – particularly if you have never been sued.

The state portion of the Georgia insurance exam is very detailed and presents its own challenges. The state topics tend to cover trivial details relating to complicated state regulations. None of this is easy, but that is why we work so hard to make the material both understandable and memorable.

This is a challenging exam. Put yourself on a strict schedule as you do your exam prep work. Be focused and disciplined as you do your insurance test prep.

Will I have adequate time to complete the Georgia insurance test?

Yes. We have never had students say that they ran out of time to complete the exam. Most students finish in about half of the allotted time (up to 2 hours). The only students who ever reported that they ran out of time were those who were trying to memorize questions in the event they had to repeat the exam. If English is not your first language you can request extra time by filling out Pearson VUE’s English as a Second Language (ESL) Request Form. Keep in mind that this form needs to be submitted to Pearson VUE, and approved, before scheduling your exam. You will also need to submit a a letter (on official letterhead) from an instructor, like America’s Professor, or an employer that verifies English as your second language.

Is the Georgia insurance exam still given by the “paper and pencil” method?

No, this is a computerized exam. Virtually all of the students say the proctors were helpful, the room was quiet, and the computer worked well. The proctors will give you the opportunity to complete a practice exam to learn how to use the system. When you are done, you will NOT be given a copy of the exam, nor will you be given the opportunity to review particular questions and their answers. The exam will be scored immediately and you will know your results when you leave.

What is the best test prep method for the Georgia insurance exam?

There is no alternative to knowing the material. There are no shortcuts to learning but there are more effective and less frustrating ways to learn. We recommend that you follow a 4-step process:

  • watch and listen to the lecture;
  • highlight key concepts in the text;
  • review questions in the test bank; and
  • send AP an email if you have any questions.

Hi Kierson, Technically if you fail the exam 3 times after using one pre-licensing provider you are supposed to take another approved course before testing again. Have you purchased/completed a new course yet? 69% is very close to passing so you don’t have far to go. Maybe give us a call and we can chat some more. 😉

Hi Daniel, Most of our students end up with both sets of licenses, Property Casualty (PC) and Life Health (LH). Health is also called Accident & Sickness in Georgia or Disability in other states. We usually recommend students get their PC license and then come back and get their Life and Health license. In general everyone needs some form of PC insurance (home, auto, renters, etc.) but not everyone is required to purchase Life insurance. But if the company you go to work for has a preference on what license you get, you’ll get that license! 😉 As far asRead more »

Hello Lupe, We don’t usually see students have a problem with misdemeanors when it comes to getting their insurance license. To be sure though, you can contact the insurance licensing department (404-656-2101) and go through the steps of getting pre-screened. That way you won’t go through the process of passing the exam and potentially getting denied a license by the state. Good luck!

Hello Ashley, You will usually go to work for an insurance company to gain some experience and then make the decision of whether you want to, or can, open your own insurance agency. Many of the larger captive insurance companies have opportunities and programs for agents to work into getting their own agency. Asking your own insurance agent is a great way to find out how to get started in the industry. They will most likely have some great pointers. Good luck!

Reply

How to Pass the Georgia Insurance Licensing Exam (29)

Reply to Rama

Hello Rama, After you have a resident license in Georgia you will apply for non-resident licenses in the other states you wish to do business in. Most states have a reciprocal agreement and won’t make you take an exam, but pay a fee. You will want to check on a state by state basis with the insurance licensing departments to see what their specific requirements are. Good luck! Please let us know if we can help you get your GA LAS license.

Certificates are only good for 1 year so it sounds like you need to take another approved course to get another certificate. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Your best bet would be to call and ask the Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner’s Agent Licensing Department (GA) (404-656-2101 or 800-656-2298). Reply to Derwin Maxwell

Hi Derwin, To sell insurance you would need to also get your Property and Casualty (PC) Producer (Agent) license by passing the PC exam. Our course prepares students for the Adjuster, Public Adjuster and PC Producer exams. Keep in mind, most adjuster companies will not allow you to hold an active Producer license while you are adjusting as it’s seen as a conflict of interest. There may be exceptions on the public adjuster side so be sure to ask the public adjusting company you are going to work for if there are any issues. Good luck!

Yes, that is correct. After you pass your exam you would send a copy of the certificate of completion, pass results and your application (+fees) in to get your license.

Hi Sharon, So if you were looking at a PC course ($159), Life course ($125), fingerprint/background check fee ($51), Pearson VUE testing fee for the PC exam ($63) and for the Life exam ($63), plus the Georgia application/license fee for PC license ($115) and Life license ($115) you would be about $700 into your licenses when all said and done. The costs for each license get kind of split up into thirds. Most of our students will complete the process for PC then come back and start over with Life (usually Life & Health actually). Hello Aida,
Most of our students going to work for State Farm or Allstate are usually going to get their Property and Casualty (PC) license first, then follow up with a Life, Accident and Health License. So, first start by completing a GA PC course, pass your licensing exam, complete the back ground check and then apply for your license. Please give us a call if you have any other questions. Good luck!

Thank you for this information. I want to become an insurance adjuster in Georgia so this information is a big help. I was advised that I should also get a property and casualty insurance agent license as well. Is there a course that would qualify me to take both the exam for insurance adjustor and property and casualty insurance agent or would I have to take two separate pre-licensing courses?

Hi Christopher, Our course would prepare you to take either exam but… most Adjuster can not hold a P&C Agent/Producer license because it can cause a conflict of interest situation. Most insurance companies wouldn’t want you to adjust a claim for them with the possibility of you pushing your own insurance policies on their customers. I have seen P&C Agents/Producers have their Adjuster license (and not use it) but usually Adjusters have to retire or put their P&C Agent/Producer license on inactive status. Good luck!

I’ve visited your website enough to feel confident that I want to purchase my course through America’s professor. I see to gain the best experience is to work for an insurance company post exam but what if an agent only wanted to work storm seasons. Do you know how or what that process is like? And what’s the best license to have for storm season?

Hello Tam, Are you inquiring about getting an Adjuster license? If so, I think most Adjusters are independent contractor types that work with heavily during storm season in areas hit hard by storms but then the rest of the year work with Independent Adjuster firms. Adjusters sign up to be on these firm’s rosters to be called when an adjustment is needed. You might want to get in touch with an Adjuster to pick their brain about real world application. Terry Freeland at AI Tech Institute might be a good contact for you too. Good luck!

Hello Yamuna, Pretest questions are just trial questions and do not count towards your score. You will not know what questions are real or pre-test questions when taking your exam. It’s very possible the pre-test questions will not even be covered in the Test Content Outline. It’s very important to know that these pre-test questions will be in your exam so you don’t start second guessing yourself when you see a question that you have no idea how to answer (make your best guess and stay calm!). Good luck!

Hi Funmi, They are not the same. If you are talking about practice exams sold by the testing centers, usually the questions used in their practice exams are retired questions from the actual exam bank on questions. You may pick up some similar wording and use of terminology though. We use questions purely to verify what students know, and don’t know, content wise. There is a lot of content you can be tested on from various angles so it’s important to really know the content!

Hello Adreana, Our P&C course is the only course you need. It will work for both the Adjuster or Producer license. If you already have a Property & Casualty license with a certificate that is still good, you could just test. If your certificate isn’t good, you will need to retake an approved course. Please give us a call if you have any other questions as it can be confusing. Thanks and have a great day!

Hi Coral, If you are going to push through the course in a week I’d schedule your exam now for a week out, plus a few study days. If you plan on completing it over a longer time period, I’d wait until you are halfway done with the course so you can estimate how much longer it’s going to take to complete. Then, when you are about a week out, I’d schedule your exam. You can always create an account with Pearson VUE and see what the availability looks like in your area beforehand. Good luck on your exam!
