How to Make Money on Instagram (1)I’m a lover of Instagram. It’s not yet a high traffic driver for my blogs, but I love the instant gratification when posting a new image. And, I love getting a sneak peek into the personal lives of those people I follow and network with online. It’s a great platform to include in your marketing strategy if you are looking to strengthen your personal brand and following. And it doesn’t take too much time!

Bloggers and home business owners are not the only ones reaping the rewards of this platform. This study reported per-follower engagement for top brands is 58 times higher on Instagram than Facebook and 120 times higher than Twitter. With 85% of big brands marketing on Instagram, it’s also a great place for you to offer your Influencer services!

We have been hearing a lot this year about high-profile Influencers making quite a bit of money sharing sponsored images on Instagram. This is a social platform driven solely by images and brands love when users post pictures using their goods and sporting their wares. Here are a few places you can connect with brands to possibly earn a little more money blogging or get some great free swag.

How to Make Money on Instagram

Hypemarket is a new platform that just came to my attention. What I love about this one is that the brands include a lot of small businesses and Etsy store owners. I love handmade goods and I love promoting other home business owners. A lot of the offers here are going to be for free goods only, but sometimes that’s okay – at least for me. A little good karma goes a long way in the blogging world.

Mobile Media Lab has made the connection for some highly successful brand campaigns; Origins, Canon, Tommy Hilfiger. They are specifically looking for those with a large audience over 10,000.

Fashion PR Girl keeps a database of fashion-centric Instagrammers. One thing I really like about this site is that they educate brands on the process and best practices. It can sometimes be a struggle for bloggers and social media influencers when they are approached by a brand wanting to run a campaign but they don’t know how it works, what to expect and what’s needed from them. I’m excited to learn more about this one. You can sign up as an Influencerhere.

Dash Hudson is a highly regarded Instagram Influence Network. They only accept around 1% of those who apply. They are looking for those with at least 10,000 followers.

Popular Pays currently has gigs available for we have gigs from 125+ brands including Nike, McDonalds, Google, Uber, Jim Beam & more.According to the company, most paid gigs require a minimum following of 5,000 to 10,000. Unfortunately, this one is only available to iOS users.

You should always be on the hunt for your own advertisers. Connect with your favorite brands on Instagram and Twitter as I suggested in this post. Offer Instagram campaigns in your media kit.

If you are over the platform and ready to move on, you can always offer your Instagram account for sale. My former Instagram account was included with the sale of one of my blogs earlier this summer. You can also sell social profiles alone on sites like Viral Accounts and Fame Swap.

Sponsored Instagram Post Tips

Get those follower numbers up. While most networks do not have a minimum requirement, many brands are looking for 1,000+ when choosing Influencers for their campaigns. But it never hurts to apply to relevant offers! Some companies are looking for smaller communities, especially for highly targeted marketing runs.

To increase your (relevant, engaged) follower number, I suggest:

  • Visiting Instagram every day and Liking photos in your niche. You can do a hashtag search to find the most popular and most recent. It only takes a minute.
  • Tag brands when you are posting their products in use. They may just Regram them.
  • Use relevant hashtags. Also find a few meme-based tags in your niche.

Hypemarket says, “Don’t buy likes! You want your profile and followers to be genuine for it to be a beneficial promotion. Companies are looking to hire people that their followers are real and love their profile.” Amen to that!

Most influencer communities are going to ask for a brief bio. I highly recommend tailoring that to include the demographics of your audience and the kind of items you like sharing and that receive the best responses.

Fashion PR Girl has an interesting calculator that can help you come up with a per-post rate. It gave me a suggested price of $156. I personally think that’s a little high due to my low Instagram Follower count at this time, but it also takes into account your Twitter following and website. You should always go with your gut plus a little bit extra when it comes to pricing.

Don’t forget to disclose! If you are accepting any form of payment – cash, swag or otherwise – you need to disclose your affiliation. A simple #ad or #sponsored hashtag on your post with satisfy the FTC.

I’d love to hear how you have made money from Instagram. And your tips for growing a thriving Instagram profile!

    Great list Angie.

I read an article a while back that featured two sisters I believe who made money from their Instagram account. It was so motivating and inspiring to read. They were only in their mid-20s and they were making some serious bucks!

Thanks for putting this list together for us. Have a great week. 🙂
