What is a Tea Latte?
A tea latte is a drink made with tea and milk. Any kind of tea, from black tea to herbals, can be used. There is no coffee in a tea latte.
For a drink to be a tea latte, it must contain milk. It can be dairy or plant-based, like almond milk or oat milk.
Tea lattes can be made hot or iced. Hot tea lattes are usually made with steamed or frothed milk.
Tea Sommelier’s Tips
Any type of tea can be used.
Black tea is usually used to make a tea latte since it goes well with milk and it’s a strong tea that can cut through the milk but any kind of tea can be used.
Try it with oolong tea, green tea, white tea, or herbal tea. Chai and matcha green tea make really tasty tea lattes since they go well with milk.
Use tea bags or tea sachets.
Expensive loose tea isn’t needed for a tea latte since any subtle flavors would be drowned out by the milk. Feel free to use less expensive tea in sachets or tea bags.
Electric milk frothers make it easy.
There are a couple of different ways to froth milk for tea lattes at home. One method is to heat the milk on the stovetop then pour the hot milk into a French press. Pump the plunger of the French press until the milk doubles in volume.
An easier, faster way is to use an electric milk frother that can heat and froth milk at the same time.
