If you are having trouble reaching a friend via phone call or text message, it's possible that they may have blocked your number.
Of course, there are many reasons why someone might not respond right away, but if your texts aren't going through and your calls go straight to voicemail, you could have been blocked.
In truth, the only way to know for sure that you've been blocked by someone is to ask them directly. But if you're looking for an approach that's less awkward, we've got an easy workaround for Android users.
How to tell if someone blocked you on your Android
To start, you should make sure that your text messages and calls aren't going through to the person. If this is consistently the case, then it's possible you've been blocked.
Without asking the person whether you've been blocked or not, you could try the following method to see if they appear as a suggested contact on your phone, which would mean that you have likely not been blocked.
1. Open the Contacts app on your Android mobile device.
2. Tap on the name of the person you suspect may have blocked you.
3. Tap the three vertical dots in the upper-right corner of your screen.
4. Tap "Delete" to delete their contact information.
5. Open your Contacts app again.
6. Tap on the search bar at the top of your screen and type in the person's name.
If your friend's name appears as a suggested contact, then it's very likely that they didn't actually block you. If their name doesn't appear as a suggested contact, it's possible you may have been blocked.
If you're now sure that you haven't been blocked, don't forget to re-enter your friend's contact information.

Call them. Making a phone call is the easiest way to determine if you've been blocked without asking the person who blocked you. If you call them and your call goes straight to voicemail or the number is busy or unavailable every time you call, you've likely been blocked.

If you attempt to send a text message and, in response, get a message that reads “Free MSG: Unable to send message—message blocking active,” that is a sign that the recipient is not receiving messages and that you may be blocked.
If you text someone who blocked you, they won't receive your text. In most cases, you won't see anything special on your end—no notifications that you've been blocked, and the message won't fail. The text will look like it went through, but the person you're texting won't know you've texted them.
Open the Phone app. Tap the three-dot menu at the top right, and select Settings from the drop-down menu. On some devices, you can choose Blocked directly from this menu. Select Blocked numbers (Pixel phones), or Block numbers (Galaxy phones).
First things first: If you block someone's number, they won't find out right away, if at all. They won't get a notification saying they were blocked and they won't be able to see the block (plainly) anywhere -- but they can infer and assume they've been blocked.
So, when someone you've blocked texts you, they will not see any delivery status for their text and their message bubble will turn green. Some people could use that to deduce they've been blocked.
After blocking, the blocked party's messages won't say “Delivered” or “Read.” This is a key indicator of being blocked. iMessages may seem to send, but they won't be received by the blocked party. Blocking also affects FaceTime calls. When a number is blocked, FaceTime calls from that number won't go through.
If you send a message to someone who blocked you, it'll still send, but never deliver. If it sends as an SMS message (green bubble) you won't know if it arrived or not. If you send a message to an iPhone as iMessages (blue bubbles) it will send but never say delivered or redid.
Unless you have physical access to the phone, you can't unblock yourself from someone else's phone. Blocking is done based on phone number so if you really want to call someone who has blocked you, simply block your phone number when you call them or call from a different phone number.
Perhaps the simplest solution is to call this person using a number that they have not blocked. This way, they won't expect that it's you on the other end of the line. If they hang up, they hang up – but you should at least get through the call-block screening.
When you send a text message, and it fails to deliver all the time or does not show a note or notification for delivery, then the receiver did not receive your text message, which then means that there is a high probability that you have been blocked.
If your call goes to voicemail after several rings or if they answer, you've likely been blocked. This method isn't foolproof, though. If the person you're calling has silenced unknown callers, they won't see your text or hear your call.
Step 1: From your Android device's main screen, locate and tap on the "Call & Text Blocking" option. Within the Call & Text Blocking settings, select "History" followed by "Text blocked history" to reveal the sequestered messages.
If someone reaches out to you without your consent, you can prevent them from contacting you again. That option is called “Blocking.” Blocking someone makes it so that you won't receive their messages even if they do text you.
You can't actually find out. If you send a message to someone who blocked you, it'll still send, but never deliver. If it sends as an SMS message (green bubble) you won't know if it arrived or not. If you send a message to an iPhone as iMessages (blue bubbles) it will send but never say delivered or redid.
If you don't want to get calls from a certain phone number, you can block it. When the number tries to call you, your phone declines the call automatically.
