Where can I find Shiny Celebi in Pokémon GO? ›

Whispers in the Woods is a pay-to-play Masterwork Research quest in Pokémon Go, which gives you the chance to catch a shiny Celebi.

While shiny Celebi has been available in Pokemon GO, it is not possible to get it on a regular day via the A Ripple in Time special research. This means that the Celebi players encounter at the end of the special research will always be shiny-locked.

The new Masterwork Research is titled Whispers in the Woods. For US$5.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), Pokémon GO Trainers will be able to pick up a Masterwork Research story, Whispers in the Woods, which leads to an encounter with Shiny Celebi.

If we assume that each Pokémon's appearance is equally weighted, then Celebi has an 18 / 27 or 2/3 chance to appear in a Mystery House. Note that you can only have one Shiny Celebi: upon recruiting it, it will not appear again in Mystery Houses, and you cannot release it.

For some players, the option to purchase the “Whispers in the Woods” ticket from the in-game shop is not possible. That's because this Masterwork Research is only available to those who did not start the “Distracted by Something Shiny” Research, which previously rewarded shiny Celebi back in Dec.

While it was possible to catch Celebi through a Japanese-exclusive event in 2001, the Legendary was never available in the NA release of the game. If you have a non-Japanese copy of the original Pokémon Gold, Silver, or Crystal, you're unfortunately unable to get a legitimate Celebi on your game file.

If you're having trouble keeping Celebi in the Poké Ball, throwing a Curveball will give you an increased catch rate.

Eating vendor food or making your own sandwiches grant special benefits called Meal Powers—and one of them, called Sparkling Power, increases the chance that you'll encounter a Shiny Pokémon.

In order to hunt for Shiny Celebi, you'll have to obtain all eight Gym Badges and then defeat the Elite Four and Champion.
