Every company is registered under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) in India. This ministry maintains a thorough record of all the registered companies, which are made available for everyone to check and verify through MCA company search.
So if you want to know how to check if a company is registered in India using the MCA company search, just follow this simple process:
Step 1: Open the MCA website for MCA company search in any web browser.
Step 2: Go to MCA Services in the main menu. In the drop-down menu, you will find Master Data, which will further open another dropdown menu. Click on View company or LLP Master Data.
Step 3: Fill in the company CIN (Company Identification Number), the company name and the captcha to complete the MCA company search. That’s it! Click on Submit.
Step 4: If the company details entered for the MCA company search match, the website will show you the following details:
- CIN (Company Identification Number)
- Company or LLP Name
- State
- Registration date
- Company status
- ROC (Registrar of Company) information and registration number of the company
- Company category
- Class of Company
- Authorized and paid-up capital
- Date of incorporation
- Address and email of the company
- The listing status of the company
- Date of last Annual General Meeting and the company status

What is CIN?
CIN (Company Identification Number) is a 21-digit alpha-numeric code issued to the company at the time of its incorporation. The following types of companies will have a CIN:
- Private Limited Company (PLC)
- One Person Company (OPC)
- Companies owned by the Government of India
- State Government company
- Not for Profit section 8 company
- Nidhi Company
It is interesting to note that Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) does not get a CIN. Rather, LLPs are assigned LLPIN (Limited Liability Partnership Identification Number) which is a 7-digit unique identification number issued to all the LLPs firms registered in India.
What is the difference between the registration date and incorporation date?
Simply put, the registration date is the date on which the legal process of forming the company under the MCA was started. The date on which the company began its operations upon the confirmation of its legal existence is known as the incorporation date.
What is the difference between authorized and paid-up capital?
Authorized capital refers to the maximum value of shares that are legally authorized to be issued in favour of the shareholders. Paid-up capital is the amount paid by the shareholders to the company. Hence, paid-up capital can be equal to or less than the authorized capital but never more than it under any circ*mstances.

Hi Rohan, the MCA website has the details of all companies incorporated in India, be it public or private. So if you weren’t able to find the details of a company on there, it likely means that the company is not registered in India. Hope this helps!
