Synopsis
An eSIM, or embedded SIM, is a digital SIM card that allows you to activate a cellular plan without a physical SIM card. This can be especially useful when traveling internationally, as it allows you to easily switch between different carrier plans without having to physically swap out SIM cards.
As an iPhone user, you may have already heard about the eSIM technology that is available on newer models of the device. An eSIM, or embedded SIM, is a digital SIM card that allows you to activate a cellular plan without a physical SIM card. This can be especially useful when traveling internationally, as it allows you to easily switch between different carrier plans without having to physically swap out SIM cards.
While travelling abroad, eSIM can be a great advantage. Though it cannot be removed if your iPhone is lost or stolen, it is more secure than a physical SIM. You may purchase eSim before you arrive via the carriers' websites or applications, or after you arrive via a carrier kiosk at the airport, carrier shop, or other places.Carriers will give instructions on how to activate your eSIM digitally, such as via a QR code.
Step 2: Activate Your eSIM

Go to Settings on your iPhone.
