How To Be More Zen: 11 Zen-Living Tips (2)

If you’re feeling a little overwhelmed at how fast your life is moving at the moment, you’re not the only one. Life comes at us way quicker than we’re prepared sometimes, and it can be tricky to regain control.

One successful way of doing that is to be more zen. Taking a step back and seeing the bigger picture in life allows us to get those overwhelming parts of life under control.

In this article, we’ve outlined the best ways to be more zen in your life. Follow these steps, and you’ll be back on track in no time!

1. Tackle One Thing At a Time

When you have a hundred and one things to do, it can be easy to think starting multiple tasks at once is the way forward. The truth is that makes it harder for you. We’ve all heard the phrase ‘jack of all trades, but master of none.’ It’s the perfect analogy here.

Tackle one task at a time. If you do so, you can give your full attention to each job and complete it much faster and to a better degree than if you tried to juggle it with others. Free your mind from the pressures of doing everything simultaneously.

You are only one person; you can only do one thing at a time.

2. Declutter Your Surroundings

Have you heard the phrase ‘a tidy house is a tidy mind’? It might seem like a throwaway statement, butstudiessuggest it’s true! The amount of clutter we have in our home or workplace can significantly affect our stress levels and how well we feel able to tackle other tasks.

If you can’t find something you need to do a simple task because it’s hidden away under clutter, a simple task becomes a complicated one.

Declutter your home, and you’ll feel miles better. A quick and easy way of decluttering is to enlist the help ofa specialist junk removal provider. Why stress yourself out further by taking on the task of decluttering when you don’t have to?

3. Try Meditation

Whilemeditationmight seem like a fad, it’s actually quite the opposite. Buddhists have been doing it for thousands of years. And while it took a while for the rest of us to catch on, its support in the modern world is very much alive.

The goal of meditation is to clear your mind and reach a place of emotional stability. To do that requires mindfulness, focus, and awareness. There are many ways to meditate, and people might find different methods work best for them.

Regardless, it’s worth experimenting to uncover what works for you because the results can’t be argued with!

4. Be Deliberate in Your Actions

Once you’ve meditated and begun to achieve a sense of mental freedom, you’ll find it a lot easier to focus on the tasks at hand. The key to this step is not simply to complete the task but to do so deliberately.

What we mean by that is to fully dedicate yourself to each task and ensure that each action you take on the journey to completing it is done purposefully. If you do this, you’ll find the task is completed to a much higher standard and – likely – much faster.

5. Complete Each Task Before Starting a New One

Can you see a pattern here? It’s all about focus and intentions. While you might think this tip is the same as the first, it’s actually the next step. As we said before, tackle one task at a time. However, if you stop working on it halfway through, the stress and pressure you feel from it being outstanding will continue.

Once you have started a task, complete it before moving on to the next one. This way, you can fully tick it off your list and free it from your mind—a metaphorical weight off your shoulders.

6. Designate Time for Relaxation

While you will achieve a sense of relaxation from meditation, it’s essential to allocate time specifically for it. Life is not meant to be stressful. You’re not supposed to be on high alert all the time with no downtime.

Meditate to clear your mind and tackle the tasks on your to-do list. Relax to unwind and recuperate. Also, bear in mind that different people relax in different ways. There is no right or wrong answer. As long as you are physically and mentally zen, it’s all good!

7. Do Less

This one might be a little harder to achieve than the others. Obviously, there are certain tasks that you can’t get out of doing. But we’re willing to bet that there is also plenty on your plate that could be removed. Whether it’s work, home, or pleasure, there will always be people around to support you. You do not have to complete each task alone.

Look at your day-to-day life and see if you can remove or reallocate some tasks. You’d be surprised by how willing your friends and family will be to help you out and get you back on your feet.

8. Prioritize What is Necessary

Part and parcel of doing less in life is learning which tasks are the main priorities. You cannot do everything at once, and trying to will only make you feel more stressed. Remember, you are only human.

If the tasks stressing you out are work-based, speak to your manager and see which needs doing first. If they are home-based, ascertain which ones are non-negotiable and which can be left for the next day.

When you’re highly stressed, it’s hard to see the wood for the trees. It might seem like everything needs to be done right now, but trust us, that’s not the case.

9. Be Grateful

When you’re pent up with stress all the time, it can be hard to appreciate the incredible life you have. Sure, there are aspects you’d like to change, but there will be parts that enrich you.

Taking the time to recognize those aspects of your life that you’re grateful for takes little time, but it will make a massive difference to your psyche. Allowing yourself to feel positive emotions will help you to calm down and realize not everything is a rollercoaster. When you’re calmer, you’ll find new perspectives and be surprised at how easily the answers come to you.

10. Help Other People

This one might sound counterproductive, especially given that we’ve just suggested you do less. But trust us – there’s method in the madness. Not only is helping others a genuinely nice thing to do (and something that you should do with no expectations to receive anything back), but it also happens to be great for your mental well-being.

Studies have shownthat helping others can help to relieve our own stress. Putting our worries aside and helping friends, family, or strangers can be a fantastic way to gain perspective on our own lives, which – in turn – can help us to calm down and organize the next steps.

11. Wake Up Early

We don’t like this last one any more than you do, but facts are facts. The earlier you get up in the day, the more time you have to complete your tasks. The sooner you accept that truth, the easier it’ll get.

But don’t worry, there’s nothing in the rule book that says you have to jump straight into tasks you don’t want to do first thing in the morning. Why not dedicate your first awake hours to something you love doing? It’ll make getting up a lot easier and set you up for the day ahead.
