How to Add Funds to the Nintendo Switch eShop in the U.S., Canada, or Mexico (2024)

Before you start

An Internet connection and Nintendo Account are required to access the Nintendo Switch eShop.

Complete these steps

1. Launch Nintendo eShop from the HOME Menu.
2. Select the account you want to use.
3. Decide how you will add funds.

• Credit Card

  Note: The credit card you use must have been issued in the same country as the Nintendo eShop you want to use. (For example, credit cards issued for the U.S. will only work in the Nintendo eShop for the U.S.)

  1. Select the picture of your icon in the upper-right corner to access your Account Information.
  2. Select Add Funds in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Credit Card.
     • Using a previously stored credit card

       If you have a credit card stored on your Nintendo Account, you will be prompted to select either Use this credit card or Use another credit card. If you use the stored credit card, you will not need to re-enter the credit card information to complete the purchase.

  4. Select the amount of funds you want to add from the available options. Note that your total balance cannot exceed $250 USD, $350 CAD, or $5500 MXN.
  5. Enter the credit card number, expiration date, security code, and billing zip/postal code, and select Next.
     • Nintendo Account owners aged 18+ can click the Save box on the credit card entry screen to store the credit card information so you don't have to enter it again for future purchases.
  6. Select Confirm, then Add. The funds will be applied to your balance.

• Nintendo eShop Prepaid Funds Code
  1. Select Enter Code on the left side of the screen.
  2. Enter the 16-character prepaid code, then select Send. Note that any letters and symbols not used with prepaid codes will be disabled from the on-screen keyboard.
  3. Select Confirm, then Add. The funds will be applied to your balance.
     • Unable to add the funds due to balance limits

       Your total balance cannot exceed $250 USD, $350 CAD, or $5500 MXN.

       You can spend some of the funds before adding more.

• PayPal Account

  Note: This option is only available to Nintendo Account owners in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, aged 18 years and older.

  1. Select the picture of your icon in the upper-right corner to access your Account Information.
  2. Select Add Funds in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select PayPal.
  4. Link your PayPal account to your Nintendo Account, if you have not already done so.
  5. Select the amount of funds you want to add from the available options. Note that your total balance cannot exceed $250 USD, $350 CAD, or $5500 MXN.
  6. Select Add. The funds will be applied to your balance.
