With five body shield variants, helmets, and damage reduction passives to account for, it can be confusing for some players to know how much damage they need to deal to kill an enemy. To top it all off, there is the crafting system that makes you question if it is worth upgrading your armor to get more health. Apex Legends EVO Shields and Legendary Shield explained
Everyone has 100 HP without shields when undamaged. All legends have the same base health and this does not change under any circ*mstance. Shields on the other hand can have different amounts of HP on them.
There are four tiers of EVO shields available in Apex Legends. You start with a base white shield in matches which gives you 50 shields on top of the 100 HP that you have beneath it. Each tier of EVO shield adds another 25 HP while a Legendary (Gold) Armor always has 100 HP. Legendary armor does not give you extra HP over purple shields, but it does double all incoming healing from healing items. If you use a Syringe or Shield Cell, you will regenerate 50 HP instead of 25 HP.

Combined with the base health pool of all characters, here is how much total health you have under different circ*mstances assuming you are not injured:
Player with White EVO Shield - 150 HP
Player with Blue EVO Shield - 175 HP
Player with Purple EVO or Legendary Shield: 200 HP
Player with Red EVO Shield: 225 HP
Gibraltar has an additional 50 HP of ‘Arm Shield’ which he can get if he aims down sights. If you notice him put up his Arm Shield when dueling you, you will need to deal 50 additional damage.
Do Helmets increase your health in Apex Legends?
No, Helmets do not increase your health in Apex Legends. However, they do reduce incoming damage from headshots, which effectively increases your survivability. Helmets only reduce incoming headshot damage and do not affect any damage done to other parts of the body.
Does “Fortified” increase your Health in Apex Legends?
Gibraltar and Caustic have the passive “Fortified” in Apex Legends which causes them to take reduced damage. While the passive does reduce incoming damage by 15%, it does not increase their health. Regardless, you will need to shoot more bullets to kill two of the biggest characters in the game. The passive is balanced by the fact that both characters have very large hitboxes and can easily get shot at.
