Anytime someone put a reaction (emoji) on a text you wrote, you are not notified.

Add quote reply in addition to collapsed threads
Currently, in order to reply to someone a few messages back, you hit the reply button and it goes into a thread. Alternatively, Mattermost could add a quote button on messages next to the reply button. When you click quote button it should work like reply in modern messengers with text of the message or part of it and name of the creator of the message.
Threads are useful, but creating them for replying to paticular messages can be a bit of an overkill.13 votes
Retrieve Private Channels in Team through API as Team Admin
If you've found the following limitation through the API where Private Channels in a given Team cannot be listed by a Team Admin due to access restrictions in the API
"Get Public Channels For Team" API endpoint currently requires permission listteamchannels in order to list Public Channels within a team.

Thread Auto-follow customizations on team level
One feature I sorely miss in mattermost is a possibility to disable thread auto follow on server/team basis with customizable exceptions, e.g. to auto-follow only on mentions but not on notification clicks. It would be great to be able to customize this to my preferences and needs.

Dear Team,
thanks for the awesome Mattermost App!I love threads, and i would like to suggest an additional usability and readability option:
Background (or "what drives me mad"):
Everybody knows the flow of conversations, they have the tendency to get unstructurized and important threads of messages get "buried" below new incoming messages in the parent channel.
Also People sometimes dont answer in threads, either they dont want to use threads, or they accidently answer in the parent channel.
This makes things more than often confusing to follow..My Proposal to implement just some options:

Allow users to reset "Do not ask me again" prompts
A Jira issue (https://mattermost.atlassian.net/browse/MM-4815) implemented a modal pop-up that prompts users to reset their presence to "Online" when they first open the client in cases where they previously set their status to "Away" or "Offline" in the UI.
Once you select "Do not ask me again" you are never asked again. As a downside, there is no way to reset this prompt. You're stuck with your decision forever... unless you can hunt through the Mattermost DB to delete the right value from the right table.
Users should be able to reset any "do not ask me again" prompts…

For Message Display>Compact, Colorize usernames, update to use color blind friendly colors
I really like the compact message display view. I use the "Colorize usernames" option, but the use of red and green for the usernames is difficult for me as I'm color blind. I understand that the contrast between red and green is great for non-color blind users, but it's super difficult for the color blind. Give each channel in the sidebar a badge that displays the number of "unread messages" in that channel
Add an option such that, if a channel has any unread messages, a badge will appear in the sidebar for that channel that indicates the number of unread messages. For my team, there can be a lot of activity across at least a handful of channels. It'd be amazing if a badge could appear next to each channel when there are unread messages so that I know how many there are in that channel. It'd be super helpful for triaging messages. Support Calling From Mobile Browsers
When using mobile browser (Android/Firefox) to visit a self hosted Mattermost site, it does not show the option to call. If "request desktop site" option is used on mobile browsers, the calling function is shown and works as expected. Request to add this Call option to mobile browser versions also.

Allow Self Signed Certificates From User Store
Mattermost does not trust self signed certificates imported manually by the user. When mattermost is deployed locally/LAN/VPN without access to the internet, the Android app does not work.
I suspect that it does not trust self signed certificates from the user store on Android/iOS and refuses the connection. Adding this simple feature would make the app invaluable.
Chrome on Android already trusts self signed certificates imported manually into the user store. When visiting Mattermost via IP address on the Chrome browser, it does not display any errors/warnings about the self signed certificate.

Add an option to require explicit opt in consent when registering a new user
Currently, disclaimer text exists in Mattermost directing users to the privacy policy and terms of use, below the create account button (user registration page). I propose that these should be explicit opt-ins using a checkbox or radio button pairing, rather than an assumed opt-in.
Regulations will differ around the world, and people's preferences will differ, so this should probably be a configuration option rather than a flat behavour change.

Chat left/right alignment
Does mattersmost have a feature to make chat like SMS or MSTeams, where the messages sent by yourself are aligned to the right side of the screen and messages from others are on the left side?

Ability to Search only DMs
I would like to search only DMs and exclude searching the channels. In most scenarios, I would have had a conversation with a few people on DMs. I would like to be able to quickly find those conversations without searching in any channels.
I see https://github.com/mattermost/mattermost/issues/7762 has been closed. But the dependent PR has been merged - https://github.com/mattermost/mattermost-webapp/pull/189.
So I would love the see this idea getting implemented.

Recommend a more privacy friendly app than Google Authenticator for MFA
Mattermost suggests that the users use Google Authenticator which is no longer is available under a free license.
I would propose making a different recommendation.- the MFA setting mentions "When true, users with AD/LDAP or email login can add multi-factor authentication to their account using Google Authenticator." But it should mention that any TOTP application will do.
- the MFA setup page only mentions Google Authenticator instead of giving a shortlist of possible apps, such as Aegis, a free and open source application.

Provide a "Mark read" choice in mobile push notifications
A "Mark read" choice in push notifications about new messages, as seen in many IM apps, would be handy in Mattermost Mobile too. Currently the message can only be marked read by tapping the message to open the app (which is slow).

Collapsed Reply Threads : enable/disable by channel
Hi,
CRTs are great for organizing conversations and reducing noise on some conversations. But there are some use cases where the old way is better for readability and understanding (e.g. direct messages or channels with a few people).
A good feature would be to enable or disable CRT by channels or direct message. Configuring per user and/or per channel may be relevant.
