Honda Activa again comes out as the most selling scooter in India, ahead of other scooters such as TVS Jupiter and Suzuki Access.

September'21 proved to be another hard month for the Indian auto industry as several automakers recorded a sales slump, however, some two-wheeler makers also managed to record positive growth figures despite the challenging market conditions. Here's a list of all the top performers of the scooter market in India from September'21.
Honda Activa: It is the undisputed king in the Indian scooter market ever since its introduction. The ‘Activa’ brand comprises two models - Activa 125 and Activa 6G. Both the scooters have collectively accounted for 2,43,353 unit sales in September'21. At this figure, Activa remains acres ahead of the second runner-up in terms of overall monthly sales. Also, what's to be noted is that this was a 4.87% Year-on-Year (YoY) sales decline over September 2020, when Honda sold a total of 2,57,900 units.
TVS Jupiter: TVS Motor Company's Jupiter is one of the most loved scooters in India. In September'21 sales, the company managed to record a 0.45% increase in sales on a YoY basis by selling 56,339 units last month, as against 56,085 units sold in September 2020. At this sales performance, Jupiter takes the second spot in the most selling scooters last month.
Suzuki Access: Suzuki managed to sell 45,040 units of Access scooters last month. This comes out as 15.07% YoY sales drop as previously the company sold 53,031 units in the corresponding month last year.
Honda Dio: Honda managed to grab another position in the list with its Dio scooter that accounted for 34,557 unit sales in September'21. The company registered a 2.73% YoY growth in sales last month in terms of Dio sales.
TVS Ntorq: The NTorq 125 grabs the fifth position in terms of sales in September'21. The company sold 29,452 units of Ntorq last month which was a direct 12.63% increase in sales on a YoY basis last month.
It was way back in 2017 when TVS Motor Company rolled out the NTorq 125 which made waves in the 125cc scooter segment owing to the Bluetooth connectivity, good design, and an engine that sounded sportier than most scooters did.
The answer is simple. HMSI gave Indians exactly what they wanted, and more - good mileage/performance, plus some classy styling (it gave the model a unisex look, though it was without gears). Almost one-third Activa riders are women.
There are 2 Activa models on offer with price starting from Rs. 67,844 (ex-showroom). The cheapest model under the series is Honda Activa 6G with 109.5 cc engine generating 7.68 bhp of power, whereas the most expensive model is Honda Activa 125 with 124cc engine generating 8.18 bhp of power.
Honda offers the Activa 125 in 5 colours whereas the TVS NTORQ 125 comes in 12 colours. Out of 1620 user reviews, NTORQ 125 scores 4.4 whereas the Honda Activa 125 tallies 4.2 out of 5 based on 164 user reviews.. TheHonda Activa 125 Mileage is around 51.23 kmpl, while the TVS NTORQ 125 Mileage is around 47 kmpl.
Now, the company has announced the launch of the 2021 Ntorq 125 Race XP which is by far the most powerful variant of the 125cc scooter. Apart from the added power and torque, the XP badge brings along a whole host of features to the Ntorq series, albeit at a slightly higher price tag than the rest of the portfolio.
The NTorq, TVS Motor Co's vehicle of entry into the 125cc scooter market, was launched on February 5, 2018, crossed the million-unit sales milestone in the first few days of April 2022, and has gone on to clock a total of 12,89,171 units till end-March 2023 (see data table below).
My Activa has run close to 45,000 Kms. and still I need to service it only once every six months. Engine is still stock with just suspension overhauled. You cant get a more maintenance free moped than this and which reflects in its sales.
