Minimum University Graduation Requirements
- 120 total semester credits (or total credits for a specific degree program)
- 40 upper-division (300/400 level) semester credits
- 2.0 overall minimum cumulative grade point average
- Completion of the UCORE, Writing Proficiency Requirements, and College Requirements
UCORE and Other Graduation Requirements
Along with the requirements of your major and college, WSU requires all undergrad students to complete a general education component, called UCORE. If you have anapproved transferable associate’s degree, most of the UCORE requirement may have already been met.

College of Arts and Sciences Additional Requirements
Applicable to Global Campus students majoring in Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, Humanities or Psychology
All students, including community college transfer students with an approved transferable AA degree from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Arizona or Hawaii, or students pursuing a second major in the College of Arts and Sciences, will be held to the following additional requirements:
- Foreign Language: Complete 2 years of high school or 1 year of college in a single foreign language.
- Additional 3 semester credits of [SSCI,] [HUM], or [ARTS] for a total of 12 semester credits of UCORE.
- Additional 1 lab credit of [BSCI], [PSCI] for a total of 8 semester credits and 2 labs.
Writing Proficiency Requirements
Graduation requirements that all students must complete:
- University Writing Portfolio/Qualifying Exam
Students must satisfy this requirement once they have earned 60 credit hours - Writing in the Major [M]
Required for all majors—6 credits
Once you have completed 90 credits and are certified in your major, you can apply for graduation in myWSU. The graduation date is something that you determine—you may elect to graduate at the end of fall, spring, or summer semester.
How to Apply
- From your myWSU Student Homepage, select Academic Advising.
- Select Apply to Graduate from the left menu. Note: If you’re unable to proceed after this step, you may be short of earning 90 credits, or not yet certified. Please contact your academic advisor for more information.
Reviewing Your Degree Requirements
When you complete the graduation application, an audit of your degree is initiated using your Academic Progress report in myWSU. After applying for graduation, you can run an Academic Progress report at any time to monitor your progress.
To Access Your Academic Progress Report
- From your myWSU Student Homepage, select Academic Advising.
- Select Academic Progress from the left menu.
Carefully review your Academic Progress report. As changes to your WSU academic record occur, they will be recorded on the University transcript system and your Academic Progress report should reflect those changes. If you see any discrepancies or have any questions, contact your academic advisor.
During your last semester, you should be enrolled in the courses your Academic Progress report indicates you still need. If your Academic Progress report lists a course you need that you are not enrolled in, or if you see any discrepancies,contact your academic advisor immediately.
If you find that you need more time to complete your degree, changing your date of graduation is no problem! You may change your graduation date online through theWSU Graduations Office.
