Is 89.5 A bad grade? ›

A common grading scale might consider a 90-92 as an A-, which would correspond to a 3.7 on a 4.0 scale, while an 87-89 may be categorized as a B+, which would typically be a 3.3 on a 4.0 scale. If your 89.5 is rounded up to a 90, it would likely be considered an A-.

Many college grading systems consider a D, or 65 percent, to be the lowest passing grade.

However, there are some schools that consider a C the lowest passing grade, so the general standard is that anything below a 60% or 70% is failing, depending on the grading scale. In college and universities, a D is considered to be an unsatisfactory passing grade.

It's pretty bad. Three out of 5 gives you 60% correct. In most schools, a 60% translates to a D. I've been in some classes in which a 60% translates to an F.

C = 70-79% D = 60-69% F = below 60%

C = Average. This is the basic level that all professors expect of college students. When students turn in C-level work, they have answered all questions at the minimum level expected for competency in the course, but they have not pressed beyond that point.

You can graduate with Ds, but you cannot go to college with Ds. Colleges will give you ZERO credit for the class, just like you got an F. This is true no matter what the class is, even if it is not a required class.

For example, 83-86 is the range for a B, but 87-89 is the smaller range for a B+. Both systems have the added problem that an A+ has no separate grade; thus a 15-point or four-point A stands for the huge range 93-100. Clearly, some CUE members have not considered the intracacies of the grading process.

Some schools differentiate between A- (90 - 92.99), A (93 - 95.99), and A+ (96 - 100), while others just have a plus or minus distinction.

So an 89.5% would be included in an A while an 89.4% would be a B. However, the grade in Canvas is not rounded to the nearest tenth. It is calculated without rounding, but then displayed to the nearest hundredth. If your grade is 89.49%, then it is a B.

For example, I use ≥90.00 as the transition from a B+ to an A-. This means that if your numerical grade is 89.9, I map it to a B+ and not an A-.

A - is the highest grade you can receive on an assignment, and it's between 90% and 100% B - is still a pretty good grade! This is an above-average score, between 80% and 89% C - this is a grade that rests right in the middle.

In most schools, an 89.6% is considered a B+. While grading policies can vary by school or even by instructor, typically, an A is awarded for a grade of 90% or higher.
