While setting up an authenticator app for 2FA you can view the setup key which we automatically generate as a QR code, but which can also be read in plain text by clicking on View setup key. It is sometimes also referred to as a "backup code" or "secret seed code".

If you've lost access to your 2FA device, you can recover your account by using backup codes, alternative recovery options like a secondary email or phone number, or by contacting customer support. Be ready to confirm your identity by answering a few security questions or providing proof of ID.

Transfer your Google Authenticator codes

When you sign in to your Google Account within Google Authenticator on a new device, your codes are automatically synced to this device. If you use Google Authenticator without a Google Account, you can still manually transfer your codes to another device.

If you have forgotten your password and you've lost access to your two-factor authentication credentials, you can start account recovery to regain access to your account. You'll need to verify your identity using a recovery authentication factor, such as an SSH key or previously verified device.

You can download it from Google Play* for Android phones or the Apple App Store* for iPhones. Do not set up any accounts using Microsoft Authenticator until after you have used the Recovery tool because it will overwrite matching site accounts. Open Microsoft Authenticator app, and select Begin Recovery.

Once logged in as the user, click Settings > Security > User Manager and click the user account that you are currently logged in as. Click the Multi-Factor Authentication tab, then select one of these options: Generate a new QR code: Click the Reset button for the Google Authenticator app.
