How do American Express gold card payments work? ›

You can make American Express® Gold Card payment online, by phone, through the American Express mobile app, or by mail. To pay Amex Gold card bill online, log in to your online account and click on “Payments.” Then, choose how much to pay, when to pay it, and where the payment is coming from.

Rather than paying in full each month, you can choose to use Pay Over Time to carry a balance on your Card with interest.

The Amex Gold Card charges $325 per year for members, and this fee is not waived the first year.

However, premium cards like the American Express Gold card generally require good to excellent credit. According to Equifax, one of the three main credit reporting bureaus, that means you'll need a credit score of 670 or higher.

If the Prime Rate increases, variable APRs (and corresponding DPRs) will increase. In that case, you may pay more interest and may have a higher Minimum Payment Due. When the Prime Rate changes, the resulting changes to variable APRs take effect as of the first day of the billing period.

Amex charges the annual fee on your Card anniversary date, and the charge will appear on your monthly billing statement. So, if you opened your Gold Card on July 25, the fee will be charged that day and every July 25 going forward – as long as your account is open.

The due date is one month after the statement is generated. As long as the amount is paid in full before the due date (after the statement is generated) no interest is accrued.
