The integration unlocks the benefits of ENS’s blockchain infrastructure, providing GoDaddy customers with the ability to send and receive cryptocurrency within hundreds of applications across the blockchain ecosystem using their preferred domain name.
For more than 30 years, domain names have been integral in establishing a unique online identity, serving as a digital address for individuals and companies alike. They play a crucial role in facilitating online presence and accessibility, serving as a gateway for communication, commerce and information dissemination on the global stage.
A crypto wallet is a digital tool that allows users to securely store, manage and transact various cryptocurrencies. It functions as a secure repository for private “keys,” enabling users to access and control their digital assets on blockchain technology. The popularity of crypto wallets continues to grow, with the global crypto wallet market size expected to grow almost a third over the next five years.
Because crypto wallet addresses are composed of long and complex strings of characters, they can be challenging to remember and as a result users search to find more shareable blockchain identifiers. The problem is that these alternate identifiers are not supported in the Domain Name System (DNS) and require additional navigation of unfamiliar blockchain technologies.
In response, ENS has been pioneering a blockchain-based solution, allowing crypto wallets, apps and services to link to a domain name via DNS without having to pay gas fees and requiring no additional costs, enabling domains to act as web addresses for the wallets themselves.
Now, with this integration, GoDaddy has added a new DNS feature so customers can quickly integrate their domain name with their ENS-compatible crypto wallet, including Coinbase Wallet, MetaMask, Rainbow, Uniswap Wallet and more.
