How do I open a PGP message? ›

OpenPGP is a public key system, which means that if you have our public key and we sign a mail message (or a software distribution) using our private key, you can have a reasonable confidence level that the message or distribution really did come from us. To unlock a currently locked PGP key, on the PGP key list page, click Action options menu and select Unlock. Important: You can unlock only those PGP keys that are locked by you.

An OpenPGP key can have an expiry date. A PGP identity has 2 or more keys in it, so that each identity can have 2 or more expiry dates. Implementations generally follow the convention that an attempt to use an expired key will cause that implementation to blow up with an error or at least throw a warning.
