Which banks are part of the Global ATM Alliance? ›

Many of our ATMs offer the option to withdraw U.S. cash from a Canadian or U.S. dollar account. Find an ATM near you by using the RBC Branch and ATM Locator. Simply select the filter icon next to the search bar and check off U.S. Cash option to filter for only ATMs that offer U.S. cash.

Note: You can make USD withdrawals only at Scotiabank ABMs with a sticker saying Both Canadian and U.S. cash available.

Bank of America participates in a Global ATM Alliance, which provides Bank of America clients access to International partner ATMs where the non-Bank of America ATM $5 usage fee for each withdrawal or transfer and ATM operator access fee can be avoided.

Usually, you'll be charged an ATM access fee and a foreign exchange fee. These fees are in addition to those charged by the Canadian ATM. Remember to always perform ATM transactions in the local currency, i.e. Canadian Dollars. That way, you'll get the mid-market rate, which is the fairest CAD exchange rate possible.

USD not universally accepted

If you are planning to rely on USD in Canada, you may like to reconsider. Although large retailers, tourist attractions, hotels and border crossings accept US currency, smaller and rural destinations may not.

Currently our machines only accept cheques drawn on Canadian financial institutions and Canadian bills for deposit. If foreign bills or cheques are deposited, they will be returned to you.

You can take out U.S. cash from your Canadian or U.S. dollar account at any RBC ATM that offers U.S. cash. There's at least one at most RBC branches. When you need Canadian cash, you can choose $5, $10, $20, $50 or $100 bills (or any combination that adds up to your total withdrawal amount) at our branch ATMs.
