IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE!
The gifted identification process is lengthy and can vary from student to student. It takes the entire school year to complete sometimes and may even lead into the next school year. Please take note below of the times of year the assessments happen.
The process for 2024 begins with a qualifying Fall MAP score of 75% or higher.
For a student to be identified as gifted they must have a qualifying score in three of the four assessment areas: Achievement (MAP), Mental Ability (CogAT/NNAT3), Creativity (Renzulli/TTCT), and Motivation (Renzulli/GES/Caimi)
Renzulli and GES are teacher rating scales. A student can only have one teacher rating scale as a qualifying score.
Kindergarten students are just beginning to learn how to be in school, how to test in various ways, and they are met with an immense amount of new information. A review team will work together to go through the following process to determine needs for high level learners within the Kindergarten classroom.
1. Parents/guardians have a discussion with the kindergarten teacher about the student's needs.
2. Teachers implement interventions/modifications in the regular classroom to address the students' needs while collaborating with the Gifted Coordinator.
3. Progress monitoring data is collected on specific skills that have been identified for intervention.
4. The decision-making team meets to further support the student. The decision-making team will recommend evaluation if appropriate and needed.
