What are UNO’s requirements for studying abroad?

Almost any student in good standing can study abroad. Learn more about your eligibility here.

When can I study abroad?

Most students who study abroad do so during their sophom*ore or junior year, but students of all levels can find opportunities overseas. We recommend that you begin planning for a study abroad experience during your freshman year. Meet with an academic advisor to determine the best time to incorporate studying abroad into your degree program.

Where can I go?

We offer study abroad experiences all over the world. Take a look at our programs and search our program database in Via TRM to begin exploring your options.

How much will it cost?

Costs vary greatly depending on the program, but we will help you find a study abroad option that fits your budget. Find out more about costs and funding here.

Can I study abroad more than once?

Absolutely! We encourage students to begin studying abroad early in their college career so they have time to take advantage of multiple overseas opportunities. Read the stories of these students who have each studied abroad three or more times.

How do I know which program is right for me?

Start by visiting the Education Abroad Office and speaking with a Peer Advisor or attending one of our info sessions. Once you have learned about program options and the study abroad process, you can set your goals and identify your priorities with this worksheet. After you have a concrete idea of what you hope to gain from a study abroad experience, begin your program search. While we encourage students to spend time researching on their own, the Education Abroad Office is also happy to help you find the right program.

I don’t speak any languages besides English. Can I still study abroad?

Of course! Most programs offer some courses in English, and several international universities use English as the teaching language for all classes. However, if you are interested in learning or improving foreign language skills, study abroad is the perfect opportunity to do so. Look into program requirements and offerings to check the language of instruction and available foreign language courses.

The idea of being away from home scares me. Does that mean I shouldn’t study abroad?

Studying abroad is all about stepping outside of your comfort zone. We provide support and resources that will make the transition easier, and there are also several great tools that will allow you to stay in touch with friends and family. If you’re really concerned, choose a program that won’t require you to be away from home for too long.

Will my classes abroad count towards my GPA?

While your grades from the classes you take abroad won’t be factored into your UNO GPA, they will affect your cumulative GPA which can impact your financial aid. If you have questions, contact the Office of Financial Support and Scholarships.

Do I need to have international health insurance while I’m abroad?

Yes. A few programs include health insurance, but students participating in all other programs will need to purchase insurance through the Education Abroad office. Learn more about our insurance coverage here.

Do I need a passport? What about a visa?

All students traveling outside of the United States will need a passport. There are many factors that go into determining whether or not a visa is necessary. Students are responsible for obtaining all necessary travel documents prior to departure for their program. Learn more information here.

Getting Started: Frequently Asked Questions (2024)

FAQs

Are FAQs still relevant? ›

If you write clear web content that is easy to navigate and answers your readers questions, you will not need to create a FAQ. FAQs often cause your readers more frustration. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) can be overwhelming and leave your customers searching through a sea of content.

What are basic FAQ questions? ›

Frequently asked questions (FAQ) are questions and answers that follow a certain topic – a collection of common questions that tend to be asked repeatedly on issues such as timing, delivery, handling, product information, and return policy. FAQs can be anywhere on the page, most commonly at the top or bottom.

How many questions should a FAQ have? ›

That said, you want to find a nice middle ground. Fewer than five questions might indicate you haven't done your research… or that you didn't need an FAQ to begin with. Fielding dozens of questions isn't good either, but if they're all necessary, consider splitting your FAQ into multiple pages.

Why is asking questions more important than answers? ›

Asking questions is important because it helps in a better understanding of the topic being discussed. It allows for a deeper exploration of the subject and encourages critical thinking.

What is the disadvantage of FAQ? ›

FAQ sections are not user-centred because a user has no way of knowing if their question is “frequently asked”. They are easy for writers to create, but inconvenient for readers to use. They are often used not as a way of answering users' questions but as another dumping ground for PR propaganda.

Is a FAQ page a good idea? ›

FAQ pages aren't only beneficial for customers; they're a game-changer for your business. Take a look at the benefits they bring to the table: They serve as an indispensable resource for addressing common queries, significantly reducing the influx of repetitive customer inquiries.

How long should FAQ answers be? ›

Answers should be CCF (clear, concise, and factual)

(I have just made up this abbreviation, but it does a good job getting my point across.) A good rule of thumb is to write short answers to each question — two to three paragraphs would make a good answer. If you go longer, the page will be too long and cluttered.

Do FAQs have to be questions? ›

Benefits of a FAQ Page

Customers can easily find answers to their questions about your product or business all on their own. However, FAQ pages don't need to be entirely made up of customer service questions. Helping your customers navigate your site and make decisions is more than just addressing common questions.

Is asking too many questions controlling? ›

Asking Questions Instead of Listening

Being the only one asking the questions is a known tactic for asserting authority and keeping control. Being made to answer questions, rather than share your thoughts, makes sense if you are in a police line-up.

What are more important questions or answers? ›

Questions are important because they help us create a framework for understanding and discovery, whereas answers are (at most) temporary fixes to our problems. Both questions and answers must be updated over time as things change.

What are three reasons for asking questions? ›

Questions are useful tools, they open lines of communications; give us information; improve interactions, facilitate analysis and diagnostics of a situation; allow us to propose our own ideas; help to understand the priorities of others; stimulate motivation to learn; motivate creativity and more importantly scientific ...

Is FAQ schema still relevant? ›

Just because Google isn't including FAQs in rich results any more doesn't mean you should skip the Schema markup process – it can still be helpful. Other search engines may still use it too, as it provides context to the page and tells the search engine what type of content it is.

Should I use FAQ or FAQs? ›

FAQ can be pronounced as an initialism, "F-A-Q", or as an acronym, "FAQ". Web designers often label a single list of questions as a "FAQ", such as on Google Search, while using "FAQs" to denote multiple lists of questions such as on United States Treasury sites.

Do people use FAQ? ›

FAQs are convenient for writers - they put everything in a long list; it's all neatly organised and the 'Q' does a lot of work for you. But they're more work for readers - questions take longer to scan and understand than simple headings and you can't take any meaning from them in a quick glance.

Are FAQ sections good for SEO? ›

Most of the time it's a dead space with zero organic value. But it doesn't have to be that way. FAQ pages are not only helpful for website visitors, but they can also be beneficial for search engine optimisation (SEO) purposes if you have the right SEO experts in your corner.
