The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of activities. It's open to girls and young women aged 14 to 24 or aged 13 and in the school year they turn 14.
Girlguiding has joined forces with DofE so you can complete this fantastic challenge as part of your guiding experience.
DofE fits in closely with many of the other awards and qualifications available to you through guiding, in particular the Queen’s Guide award. There are 3 levels of the award - Bronze, Silver and Gold.
For each level you need to undertake 4 sections:
- Volunteering
- Physical
- Skills-development.
- An expedition.
For the Gold level you’ll also need to take part in a residential event.

Is doing DofE worth it? ›

Do universities like the Duke Edinburgh Award? ›

Equipment failure or misuse must be avoided. Burn injuries and fire risk through use of cooking stoves. Hypothermia / exposure conditions, heat and cold disorders, dehydration, adverse weather and poor visibility. Insufficient pupil competence or supervision.
How many hours of volunteering do you do for DofE? ›

For Gold, you'll need to do your programme for at least 12 months if you've achieved your Silver Award, or 18 months if you've started at Gold level without doing your Silver – even if you've done Bronze.
How prestigious is the Duke of Edinburgh Award? ›
A DofE Award is not just a prestigious Award much desired by colleges, universities, and employers. It's recognition of the huge effort you've put in to doing it, the people you've helped and the skills you've learnt along the way.
