The Genshin Impact Fontaine region is the place to be if you want to continue the Archon Quests, see a brilliant live performance at the Opera Epiclese, or go for a swim. This Genshin Impact Fontaine guide will point you towards every key location, quest, local specialty, and boss fight found in the Nation of Justice.

The Fontaine region was added in Genshin Impact 4.0, released on August 16, 2023. Fontaine is located in the northwestern part of Teyvat. If you haven’t discovered it yet, take a look at our guide on how to reach Fontaine in Genshin Impact.

Fontaine Map

The picture below shows the full Fontaine map as released in Genshin Impact version 4.0, including all three Statues of the Seven. Some parts of the map are underwater, with the most important underwater area being the large sea in the center. For more info on Fontaine's underwater world, take a look at our Fontaine underwater exploration guide.

The Fontaine maps shown below were added in Genshin Impact version 4.1. You can see the regular map on the left, and the "underwater" map on the right. This part of Fontaine lies north of the Court of Fontaine, and includes The Linney Region and the Fontaine Research Institute of Kinetic Energy Engineering Region.

The map shown below was added in Genshin Impact Version 4.2. It shows the new Erinnyes Forest and Morte Region on the left, and the new underwater region on the right.

In Genshin Impact version 4.6, the Nostoi region was added to Fontaine. This region lies to the south of Fontaine, between Sumeru and Chenyu Vale. At first glance, the Nostoi region consists of nothing but sea and a small island, Petrichor:

However, if you follow the Canticles of Harmony world quest series starting on Petrichor, you'll discover a hidden map: the Sea of Bygone Eras. This special Fontaine sub-region is a submerged ocean world with additional cave mini-maps and a large palace.

Fontaine Key Locations

The locations listed below play a key role in Fontaine's story. While most of them are pretty hard to miss, make sure you pay them a visit.

  • Court of Fontaine: the big city. You'll find shops, a blacksmith, and the Adventurers' Guild in this location.
  • Opera Epiclese: As one of the most famous buildings in Fontaine, this massive opera house is used for performances as well as court hearings. You can find this building in the northeastern part of the map.
  • Merusea Village: A large, underground area in the Beryl sub-region, southern Fontaine. It's home to the Melusine people. To reach Merusea Village, do the world quest called A Brush of Seafoam and Crimson, which is part of the Ancient Colors quest series.
  • Fortress of Meropide: a massive underwater prison located in the Linney Region, northwestern Fontaine. Archon Quest Chapter 4 Act 3, "To the Stars Shining in the Depths", will take you there.
  • Tower of Ipsissimus: an enormous tower located in Fontaine's Morte Region - although its position might change once you've completed the world quest called "In the Wake of Narcissus".
  • Sea of Bygone Eras: this mysterious sea region isn't part of the standard Fontaine map. Instead, the Sea of Bygone Eras is a Fontaine "subregion" that can be accessed from Petrichor Island. You'll find plenty of quests, caves, and old ruins here.

Fontaine Lore and History

Fontaine is the Nation of Justice, a watery land led by Hydro Archon Focalors (a.k.a. Furina). She's not one of the original Seven Archons, only taking her place after the original Hydro Archon died. Nonetheless, Fontaine's Archon is incredibly popular - rather than governing her people, however, she seems mostly interested in Fontaine’s famous opera scene. No wonder that Fontaine’s most famous building, the Opera Epiclese, is her favorite place to spend time.

While opera and other types of performance arts are a key part of Fontaine’s culture, this region is also home to talented engineers. The aquabus transportation system is just one example of Fontaine's technological advancement.

Besides humans, you may spot the fluffy-eared Melusine people around Fontaine. There used to be another type of creature in the Nation of Justice, the Hydro-like Lochfolk, but it is said that they left because they didn't get along with the new Archon.

Sadly, not all is well in the land of Hydro. An ancient prophecy warns that the sea will swallow the sinful people of Fontaine, only allowing the Hydro Archon to survive. While initially regarded as a mere legend, the waters of Fontaine have started to rise, suggesting that the prophecy may be true after all…

Fontaine Shrine of Depths

Unlocking Fontaine's Shrine of Depths is a great way to gather Primogems, Adventure EXP, and a selection of loot. Here's where to find every Shrine in the southern part of Fontaine:

Every Shrine of Depths in the northern part of Fontaine:

Every Shrine of Depths in the eastern part of Fontaine:

And finally, every Shrine of Depths in the Sea of Bygone Eras, a Fontaine sub-region:

For an in-depth description of how to find them, take a look at our Fontaine Shrine of Depths locations guide.

Fontaine Bosses

The first two Fontaine Bosses, Emperor of Fire and Iron and Icewind Suite, are located in the Belleau Region and near the Court of Fontaine. Two additional Fontaine bosses were added in Genshin Impact version 4.1: the Millennial Pearl Seahorse and Experimental Field Generator, both located north of the Court of Fontaine.

  • Emperor of Fire and Iron - To find Fontaine's intimidating Emperor boss, you need to swim through an underwater tunnel. The entrance is just west of the nearby Teleport Waypoints. For more info on how to reach this boss, plus helpful tips on how to defeat him, take a look at our Emperor of Fire and Iron boss guide.
  • Icewind Suite - Teleport to the Fountain of Lucine, in front of the Opera Epiclese, and follow the path to the right. See the two dancing mechs? Those are the bosses, but you need to speak with the nearby NPC, Maillardet, to start the fight. Our Icewind Suite boss guide can help you defeat the dancers.
  • Millennial Pearl Seahorse - This Electro boss and its fishy minions are located in an underwater cave, in the northwestern part of Fontaine (the Liffey Region). To find the boss, follow the nearby underwater gorge (the deepest part of the ocean) towards the north, until you see a cave opening. Swim through this tunnel to find the Millennial Pearl Seahorse. Do you need some tips on how to defeat this Electro boss? Then take a look at our Millennial Pearl Seahorse boss guide.
  • Experimental Field Generator - This massive ruin boss is located in the northeastern part of Fontaine, between the Court of Fontaine and the Fontaine Research Institute. You'll find the Experimental Field Generator inside the large circular ruin, a short walk south from the nearby Teleport Waypoint. For more detailed information, including some useful tips on how to defeat this intimidating enemy, take a look at our full Experimental Field Generator boss guide.
  • Hydro Tulpa – Fontaine’s monstrous Hydro Tulpa boss may be made from water, but that doesn’t make its slamming attacks less impactful. As you would expect, it’s immune to Hydro damage. To find the Hydro Tulpa Boss location, go to the western part of Fontaine, then look for an underwater tunnel opening in the location shown in the picture. Swim down the tunnel to find the Hydro Tulpa’s boss arena.
  • Statue of Marble and Brass - Also known as the Legatus Golem, this Fontaine boss uses Geo powers to protect itself and Pyro power to deal damage. Upon defeat, it may drop a Fragment of a Golden Memory, which is one of [1] Arlecchino's Ascension Materials. The Legatus Golem is found in a cave system underneath Petrichor - the small island in the southern sea between Fontaine and Sumeru. This cave is called the "Faded Castle". To unlock it, follow the Petrichor-based world quest named The Shadow Over Petrichor.

Fontaine Domains

Fontaine has a total of seven Domains: five Ascension and Artifact Domains and two Trounce Domains. Here's an overview of how to find the ones in the northern part of Fontaine:

  • Echoes of the Deep Tides (location 2) - A weapon ascension materials Domain. It awards Fragment of an Ancient Chord, Dross of Pure Sacred Dewdrop, and Broken Goblet of the Pristine Sea materials. It's located in the hills northwest of the Court of Fontaine.
  • Pale Forgotten Glory (location 2) - A talent level-up materials Domain. You can farm Teachings of Equity/Justice/Order here. The Domain is underwater, but not too deep. A short swim will take you there.
  • Shadow of Another World (location 4) - A Trounce Domain home to the All-Devouring Narwhal. You will unlock this Domain by completing the Fontaine-based Archon Quest chapter 4, act 5: Masquerade of the Guilty. The All-Devouring Narwhal drops "Lightless" Ascension materials used by Navia, Chiori, and Charlotte.

You'll find three more Domains in the southern part of Fontaine:

  • Waterfall Wen (location 1) - An artifact Domain that drops Song of Days Past and Nighttime Whispers in the Echoing Woods artifacts. It's in the Belleau Region on the east side of the mountain.

Fontaine Reputation System

It's a bit hard to find the Fontaine Reputation System, but don't worry; it's there! You just need to do the Steambird Interview world quest, which is unlocked automatically after completing the Archon Quest Chapter 4 Act 2: As Light Rain Falls Without Reason.

The Steambird Interview quest is very (very!) short: fast travel to the Court of Fontaine and talk to Euphrasie. That's it! speak to Euphrasie anytime to check your Fontaine Reputation progress.
