Why have my gallery photos disappeared? ›

Many people use Google services like Google Photos to automatically back up their gallery photos. Customizing the syncing setting can result in your photos vanishing from the gallery. If you have stored the photos on the SD card, any issues with the card can be the reason why the gallery disappeared on Android.

Step 1: Check your account

Some photos can seem to disappear because you're on a different account. Sign in to your Google Account. At the top, check that you're signed in to the account that you backed up photos to.

Navigate to your phone's "Settings". Proceed to "Application Management"/"App" > "Gallery". Hit "Clear cache" or "Clear data" to delete unnecessary files and potentially fix the Android gallery not showing pictures.

On your Android device, open the Google Photos app . At the bottom, tap Library. Find the folder under Photos on device. If available, open your device folders to find your missing item.

If you're unable to locate your images in the Gallery, then please tap the Home button > Swipe up from your Home screen > Samsung (folder) > My Files > Images, and check to see if the images are intact in this location.

Go to Storage. If your Gallery app is corrupted or frozen, you'll need to tap Force stop to shut it down first. Choose Clear cache button located on the bottom right corner. Then, restart your phone and see if the missing photos appear on Gallery app.

If your photos are visible in My Files but are not in the Gallery app, these files may be set as hidden. This prevents Gallery and other apps from scanning for media. To solve this, you can change the option for showing hidden files.

Firstly, you have to open Settings of your Galaxy smartphone >> Tap on Apps >> Click on the More option located at the top right >> Select Special Access >> Press All files access option >> Here you can see Download Manager, turn on it by tapping on the toggle. Now, you just need to restart your phone.

Important: Deleting photos and videos from the Google Photos app deletes the same items from your device. If these items are backed up, the same content will be deleted on all devices with backup turned on.

In all the Android phones, the “backup & restore” function is present to help you. All you have to do is open the “Settings” and scroll down to find “cloud and accounts” or “backup and reset”, etc. This will fix your gallery pictures disappear problem and you will be able to get your pictures back.
