What time period do these data cover?
Unless otherwise noted, data will always be presented by calendar year. Exceptions such as school year, fiscal year, or multi-year will be noted in the Data Notes section at the bottom of any individual indicator page, profile or dashboard.
Why are some of the cells blank in the data tables?
Blank cells indicate data is not available or suppressed. Please see the Data Notes section at the bottom of the indicator page, profile, or dashboard for more information about the suppression rules by data source.
Are there more breakouts such as race and ethnicity for indicators than are shown?
Data are presented based on groupings provided to CHARTS by the data owner. In some instances, more details are available. For example, the birth and death query systems allow additional breakouts of race and ethnicity.
Why are survey questions available in certain years and not others?
Some surveys collect state-level data annually, adding county-level data every two years (FYS) or three years (BRFSS). In addition, survey questions may be added, updated, or removed between years. If you do not see the survey question you are looking for, see if the question was modified by looking for a similarly worded question. New or modified questions will not appear if selecting a survey year before the year the question was added.
Why does the data for a single indicator sometimes differ depending on where you look on CHARTS?
An indicator can have multiple sources of data. For example, many of our indicators use data from the American Community Survey (ACS) for population estimates; however, population estimates are also provided by the Office of Economic and Demographic Research (EDR) of the Florida Legislature. Depending on which data are used, there will be differences in the result. For information on an indicator's data source, check the bottom of any indicator page, profile or dashboard.
Is there a difference between a zero (0) and a blank cell on CHARTS?
Yes. In CHARTS, there is a difference between a zero (0) and a blank cell.
Zeros (0) are used when the actual count is 0. Therefore, rates calculated from the data point will also be 0.
Blanks are for suppressed, unavailable, or unknown data points. Information about blank cells can be found in the Data Notes section at the bottom of any indicator page, profile or dashboard.
What is the difference between resident and recorded deaths or births?
Resident deaths are deaths that occurred to Florida residents, regardless of the location of the death. Therefore, Resident Deaths by Residence County would be the deaths that occurred to Florida residents, listed by the county that they reside in. Recorded deaths are deaths that occurred in the state of Florida, regardless of residence status. Therefore, Recorded Deaths by Recorded County would be the deaths that occurred in Florida, listed by the county where the death occurred. This same definition applies to the resident and recorded births.
When will a specific dataset be updated?
You may check the Data Sources document for an approximate data update timeframe. Please note that FLHealthCHARTS data are subject to availability from its sources, and updates may vary from the schedule.
Why is cancer incidence data delayed?
Cancer cases are not required to be reported for six months after diagnosis and, before producing the summary data, the records are researched and validated for accuracy. Therefore, cancer incidence data has a lag which helps improve the quality of cancer data.
How can I access Vital Statistics data that are not available on CHARTS?
For vital statistics data (births, deaths, infant deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and marriage dissolutions) that are not available on CHARTS, a data use agreement will need to be submitted and approved. For more information on submitting a data use agreement, please visit the Florida Department of Health Confidential Data Requests for Research page.
How can I access hospitalization data that are not available on CHARTS?
Hospitalization data is reported to the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). To request hospitalization data outside of what is presented on FLHealthCHARTS, you would need to contact AHCA directly at [email protected] or visit www.quality.healthfinder.fl.gov/Researchers/Order-Data/.
Where can I find provisional data?
Provisional data are available in the query systems and the monthly views of birth and death indicators. Data are updated daily in the query systems, and monthly in the births and deaths indicators. Data that are not finalized are marked “provisional” and are subject to change.
Where can I find subcounty data?
CHARTS has data at the subcounty level in the Community Map, the Social and Economic Factors Report, and in the query systems for births, deaths, fetal deaths, and infant deaths. Depending on the indicator, it may include census tract or zip code level data.
Where can I find individual medical records?
FLHealthCHARTS does not have individual patient medical records. Please reach out to the specific healthcare provider or facility that provided the service.

Where can I find individual immunization or vaccine records?
