Feng Shui Your Wallet: 8 Tips - Happy House Feng Shui (2024)

Attracting money, love and a better job are the top three most popular ways people use Feng Shui. One area people often forget about in regards to Money and Feng Shui is where they actually keep their money — their wallet. Let’s get that thing Feng Shui’d for you to start attracting more wealth into your life. Here are some tips!

#1 Make Sure Your Wallet is In Good Shape, Makes You Happy & Follows a Few Feng Shui Rules

Good news, friends. There is a pretty loose definition of what the “right” wallet is in Feng Shui.

  • The only absolute necessity is it is in good shape. A janky wallet = janky finances and well, hell no to that. If your wallet is torn, worn out or just generally in need for an upgrade — now is the time.
  • Purple, green, yellow and red are all colors associated with wealth in Feng Shui. Purple is especially good because it is the color of royalty in China, and it is also considered a protective color.
  • Have it be something that when you look at – it makes you smile. Meh feeling wallets = meh feeling money.
  • Avoid circular shaped wallets / change purses. The element associated with money in Feng Shui is wood. The destructive element to wood, in Feng Shui, is metal. (Because metal cuts wood.) The shape associated with metal is a circle — so no round wallets.
  • Rectangular-shaped wallets are good — which is really convenient as that is the shape of most wallets. (Coincidence?!?)

#2 Cut Up and Throw Away Any Expired Credit Cards

You want your financial situation current, relevant, uncluttered and well managed. Your financial situation is none of these things if you are toting around your Diner’s Club card credit, expiration date 2003. Cut up or shred and then toss all those old cards.

I feel better for you just thinking about it.

#3 Toss Any Receipts, Business Cards, Garbage You Have

I have started my own little silent rebellion against receipts. Yes, for some things they are a necessity. But, people, for the love of God, tell me what I am supposed to do with the S’mores Cappuccino receipt from the Stop N’ Go? An entire tree had to die, and it will end up in a mystery crevice of my car or in the bowels of my wallet.

All of is this to say, go through your wallet. Recycle all the receipts you don’t need. If you should save them for taxes or an expense report – get them out of your wallet and into the right place. Same goes for business cards, candy wrappers, Chinese takeout menus and well, you get the idea.

#4 Get Rid of Anything that Feels Like Bad Energy or Brings Up Unpleasant Memories

We want happy, happy, happy energy around your money. IF there is anything in your wallet that reminds you of unpleasant times, is generally ick energy or makes your stomach sink when you see it — GET. IT. OUT. OF. YOUR. WALLET. And ideally, get it completely out of your life.

#5 Add a Wish, a Reminder of What You Will Do with More Money or a Symbol of Wealth to Your Wallet

You have heard the famous story about how Jim Carrey, prior to anyone knowing who Jim Carrey was, wrote himself a check for $10 Million and put it in his wallet? And then, was able to cash it years later. Let’s get you on a similar plan. Put something in your wallet that reminds you of what you will do with more money, something that reminds you of wealth or is a wish written as if it has already happened e.g., “I am sitting happy and proud with my $5 million in the bank.”

#6 Put Some Cash in there You Will NEVER Spend

So much of money is about mindset. And there are a lot of money mindsets out there that live in terror of losing or not having enough money. Terror about losing, to state the obvious, is not the exact mind to be in for winning.

This is what I want you to do.

Take an amount of money to you that seems like it would be difficult not to have a need to spend. Perhaps it is $5 or $20 or $100 and put it in your wallet. Perhaps put it in a place where you will kind of forget about. And then, never spend it. Never ever. Never ever give the universe the energetic idea that you “need” that money or that you are “lacking” money. I mean if you are held up by a gang of pirates demanding 20 bucks for your freedom well, consider giving it to them.

But short of that – don’t spend it.

#7 Keep Non-Wallet Things Elsewhere

In Feng Shui, you will hear a lot about the importance of things being in their appropriate place. For example, there is a reason your bed isn’t in the front yard, your toothbrush isn’t in the garage and the ketchup isn’t in your toolbox. Things going where they belong creates a sense of harmony, and a sense of harmony creates good energy, and well, once you have good energy around you – the sky isn’t even the limit for what you can have from a Feng Shui perspective. To the absolute extent possible get things out of your wallet that are not appropriate for, or made to be there.

#8 Keep Your Wallet in A Place You Can Always Find It

You always want to be thinking about the energy of your wallet being symbolic of the energy around your money situation. Are you perpetually losing your wallet? Yes? Well then, my guess would be you are also, perpetually losing your money. Alternatively, is your wallet always where you need it when you need it, and your money situation feels the same (where you need it, when you need it)?

You follow my drift here?

Put your wallet in a safe place, and the same place, all of the time, so it is always exactly where you want it to be – when you need it — which is exactly what we want for you and your money.
