How to Make Easy Round Steak in an Instant Pot

Aunt Lou here.

Whether you have bought meat in bulk and have a round steak or two in your freezer or bought one at the store because it is one of the cheaper cuts of meat, you want to use this recipe! We love beef around here and usually try to by a quarter beef so that we can keep our freezer stocked. However, the round steaks had always been a tough one for me because, well, the meat is pretty tough. So low and slow was the only way I knew to do it…like with this Easy Crock Pot Round Steak. However, that’s an all day recipe, and sometimes you don’t have all day. So I thought I would try out my crock pot recipe with my Instant Pot. I was a little skeptical that a round steak could become tender in just 20 minutes of cooking, but this Easy Instant Pot Round Steak made me a believer! Seriously, I barely used my knife. Most of the time I cut it with myfork!

This recipe is great!!! Just had it for the first time. We also bought a 1/4 of a cow. The only thing I did extra was add about 1/4 tsp vegetable better than bouillon to the water. The whole family loved it! We will be doing this again. Thank you for this one.

It was ok. My husband liked it. I would add beef broth instead of water next time to see if it gives it more flavor or some better than bouillon. I also will double the liquid. The noodles sucked up all the juice on the leftovers. I will make it again to use up the cow in my freezer!

I like the idea of using beef broth instead of water. I bet that will really bump up the flavor! It might help if you don’t combine the noodles with the beef and just put them together when serving. That way you can store the noodles separately from the beef and cooking juices. Hope that helps!

Very good recipe! We bought a quarter of a cow that included a lot of tenderized round steak and this recipe was perfect. I will probably add a can of mushrooms (wife doesn’t like fresh!) and maybe a cut up onion next time for some texture. Flavor was wonderful and like others, the remaining liquid needed thickening but overall a great, easy recipe.

I saw tons of great feedback so I wanted to try this and it did not disappoint! I used 1lb 5 oz venison round steak and set for 20 minutes still. I got the burn notice immediately, canceled, added an cup of broth and stirred. I also ended up letting it completely depressurize naturally. Added a few tbsp of cornstarch to thicken the liquid back into gravy and the meat was perfect! Served over mashed potatoes.

Different elevations make a difference on how much liquid is needed. It is so frustrating. So glad you were able to get around the burn notice and to hear you enjoyed it.

I sliced the bottom round cutlets, into small slices, put a cup of beef broth, some Dave’s Famous Steak and Burger seasoning, n some white mushrooms, in my IP, stirred it all up, n set it, on the meat setting, for 15 minutes!! I chose a lesser time, cuz I didn’t use 2 lbs of meat, n I chose not to use the cream of mushroom soup, cuz I used white mushrooms instead. It’s coming right now, so we’ll see how it turns out!!

I was happy to find this simple recipe for a quick dinner using eye of round steaks that I had bought, not knowing anything about meat. I will often buy cuts of meat that “look nice” on the shelf and then have to go learn about how to cook them later. This recipe was very handy for learning about Eye of Round. After the 20 minutes of pressure cooking, I pulled the meat out, added a couple of bay leaves, some steak seasoning, some garlic powder and a few shakes of worcestershire sauce and let the sauce cook down a bit. Then I added the meat back in and served it over egg noodles and a sprinkling of sliced green onions. I thought the flavoring of the dish was perfect and my husband really enjoyed it, but I decided I’m not a fan of eye of round meat….it just didn’t have a great texture (too fibrous?) but I will definitely make this dish again using a better cut of meat like flank steak or something and maybe do it on the stovetop since the meat will already be more tender.

This was amazing!!! We are having guests and want to make this. However, we need to double the amount of meat. I assume we’ll need to double the ingredients and change the cook time. Any suggestions?

So glad you enjoyed it Bryan! I haven’t tried doubling this recipe. If I did, I would double all the other ingredients to make sure you have plenty of the yummy gravy. As for the cooking time, I can’t say for sure how much you would need to increase the cooking time without trying it myself first. I would start by looking for other Instant Pot recipes that use a similar amount of round steaks. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes!

Excellent recipe! I’m always skeptical of recipes for round steak because it is such a tough cut of meat, but I prepared exactly according to directions and the meat was so tender! This is a keeper for a great inexpensive meal.

I haven’t tried this with half the amount of meat, but yes. You would need to adjust your cooking time. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes!
