Warm up with this Hot Buttered Rum CrockPot Recipe! It gets so cold in Spokane, and I dream of spring and warmer weather as soon as the temperatures fall from sweater to snowsuit weather. I know it isn't Christmas, but I can't help myself.

I make many CrockPot recipes and play with new ones to distract myself from the cold, dreary weather! I am so excited to share them with you soon! But first, we have to talk about this Hot Buttered Rum Crock Pot Recipe!
I love how easy it is to make and serve for a holiday party or a cold winter day. You can make this hot buttered rum batter a week or two before your party and store it in the fridge.
The freezer method is excellent when you have time to prep early and want to have it ready as needed. It keeps well in the freezer for a big batch that lasts throughout the winter.
I know it doesn't make the snow and cold temperatures disappear, but it does warm you up.

Recipe Variations
Substitutions:
We like dark brown sugar in this recipe for the deep molasses flavor it imparts into this CrockPot Hot Buttered Rum. However, you can use light brown sugar if you don’t have the dark brown variety.
Spiced dark rum and dark rum are interchangeable in this recipe; it depends on how flavored you like your hot buttered rum.
Vegetarian Option: This recipe is vegetarian-friendly!
Vegan Option: Vegans should replace unsalted butter with a plant-based alternative to make this beverage vegan-friendly.
Gluten-Free: Gluten-free drinkers, rejoice! The ingredients in this recipe are naturally gluten-free.
Alcohol-Free Option: Swap the dark rum with a zero-alcohol alternative to make a virgin Hot Buttered Rum.
Smaller Serving Size + Larger Group/More Servings: The written recipe makes 25 servings. Scale it up or down to your desired yield, keeping in mind that you may need to work in batches if you scale up.
Sugar-Free: The written recipe makes 19 grams of sugar per serving. Replace the dark brown sugar and apple cider with sugar-free alternatives to make it sugar-free.
Tips for the Best CrockPot Hot Buttered Rum
- As shown in the recipe photos, we like serving this beverage in Irish coffee glasses that allow you to enjoy its warm caramel hues while keeping your hands safe from the heat. However, you can use regular mugs with handles if you don’t have these glasses.
- Top each mug or glass with whipped cream and a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg for a winning presentation that’ll rival your local craft cocktail bar.
