The use of drones is strictly controlled and they should not be flown over built up areas without the permission of the Civil Aviation Authority, it is not illegal per se to fly over private property.
The Civil Aviation 'drone code' states:
When you fly a drone in the UKit is your responsibility to be aware of therules that are in place to keep everyone safe.
Follow these simple steps to make sureyou are flyingsafely and legally.
Make sure you can see your drone at all times and don't fly higher than 400 feet
Always keep your drone away from aircraft, helicopters, airports and airfields
Use your common sense and fly safely; you could be prosecuted if you don't.
Drones fittedwith cameras must notbe flown:
within 50 metresof people, vehicles, buildings or structures
over congested areas or large gatherings such asconcertsand sports events
Other offences can be committed or facilitated by use of drones, for example, Anti-Social Behaviour and voyeurism.
