What is SnapScan?
SnapScan is an app that lets you pay with your phone quickly, easily, and safely. Your SnapScan app uses your phone's camera to scan a QR code. Stores have their own unique QR Codes, and scanning these codes allows you to pay them. SnapScan is free to use and works with any South African bank, and most international credit cards.
Our scan to pay feature is definitely our most loved solution, but we're evolving into somuch more because we can't stop making your lives easier. With SnapScan you can pay in a snap, without the fuss of handling cash, cards, or EFTs.

It starts with a download and ends with a snap.
Download the app
SnapScan is available for free on iOS and Android. Visit the Google Play Store, App Store, or Huawei AppGallery to get snapping.
Sign up & load cards
You'll need a South African sim and an ecommerce enabled debit or credit card to set up the app.
Create a pin
Create a pin to authenticate payments for added security. You can also add your fingerprint or use FaceID.

SnapScan comes in all shapes and sizes, so keep an eye out for the different options.

*The default payment source is the last card you used (you can load three), but you can also choose to use the funds in your SnapScan Wallet.
ShowCode
Some businesses have cameras at the till to scan your phone. Use the in-app SHOW button to display a temporary QR Code on your screen and position your phone in front of the camera to pay.
Payment Links
A SnapScan merchant can send you a Payment Link via social media, SMS or email, which allows you to skip the scanning bit. Once you tap the link, you'll be taken directly to the pay screen of your app.
In-app purchases
Take a look inside your SnapScan app. You’ll notice there’s a Prepaid section for airtime, data, and electricity, as well as a section to pay your bills, pay for parking, and donate to the causes close to your heart.

Your Wallet
Your SnapScan Wallet functions like a digital bank account that you can use to send and receive money. Tap "Wallet" on the home screen to browse all the features:
Send money
Repay your colleague for all those coffees they bought when you left your phone at your desk. Or send your bestie a little something so they can grab a treat at any business that accepts SnapScan.
Receive money
Tap “Receive” so friends can scan your QR Code and send money to your SnapScan Wallet. You can even send them a link to connect via sms or Whatsapp and start snapping.
Top up
Want to set yourself a budget for your SnapScan spend, or save for that special luxury purchase? Top up your Wallet using your bank card and then use the funds in your Wallet when you’ve reached your goal.
Verify your account to unlock more features
Get the most out of your SnapScan app by verifying your account. Once you’re verified, you can withdraw money to a linked bank account or send money from your Wallet.

Electricity
People in a variety of municipalities can top up their prepaid electricity from within the app. Just add your meter number to get started.
Airtime and data
Purchase airtime and data for you or a friend from CellC, MTN, Telkom Mobile, Virgin, or Vodacom.
Entertainment
Keep up to date with the latest blockbusters by purchasing the movies you’re most excited about on BoxOffice.
Settle bills
A variety of bills can be paid from within the app, and it only takes a moment. Pay your DSTV bill or TV license. Some municipal bills and home loans are also available. Browse the app and see which of your bills you can pay in a snap.

Support the causes close to your heart. You can make a once-off donation, and even elect to repeat your donation, turning it into an ongoing, monthly contribution. Have a look at the organisations in the Donate section of the app.
