Safely Disposing Old iPads

Go back to Settings and tap General > Transfer or Reset [device] > Erase All Content and Settings. If you turned on Find My [device], you might need to enter your Apple ID and password. If your device uses eSIM, choose the option to erase your device and the eSIM profile when asked.

When this product reaches its end of life, take it to a collection point designated by local authorities.

Safely Disposing Old iPads

To get rid of an old iPad, visit Apple's Trade In website to earn credits you can apply towards new purchases. If your device isn't eligible for credits, Apple will still recycle your iPad for free. You can also check for e-waste facilities, sell, or donate your device.

The two most common solutions to clear storage space on your iPad is to delete photos/videos from your photo library or to uninstall apps. Before you delete anything though, make sure that you know how to backup the files you would like to keep. For example, you can keep a backup of your photo library on iCloud.

Apple lets you recycle any Apple device and devices from Apple owned brands at any Apple Store and online. We'll make sure it's recycled responsibly or given a chance to be used again. You can bring your batteries and old Apple-products to any Apple Store, and we'll recycle them responsibly, free of charge.

Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad. Do one of the following: Prepare your content and settings to transfer to a new iPad: Tap Get Started, then follow the onscreen instructions. When you finish, return to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad, then tap Erase All Content and Settings.

If you're sending your device to Apple for a service

After you back up your device, erase it to protect your personal information and remove it from your Apple ID: In Settings, tap General > Transfer or Reset iPhone (or iPad), then tap Erase All Content and Settings. You need to enter your Apple ID password to confirm.
