To delete a file or folder (or multiple selected files), right-click on the file and select Delete. You can also select the file and hit the Delete key

Alternatively, highlight the file or folder and right-click your mouse to show a drop-down menu. Click Delete. On the popup window, an option says, Skip the trash and permanently delete the files. If you leave the checkbox unchecked, you can view and restore your deleted files under View Trash in the Toolbar.

To permanently delete a file:

To make a file impossible to recover, it is recommended to use a process called "secure deletion" or "file shredding." Permanently deleted files are not necessarily gone forever, as their data usually remains on the storage device until it's overwritten by new information. As long as they haven't been overwritten, there's a good chance these files can be retrieved using a data recovery program.

But just because you delete a file, doesn't mean that the data is gone forever. Traditional spinning hard drives store data on polished magnetic metal platters (or glass or ceramic with a thin metal layer) and the store data by magnetizing sectors.

The file still exists on the hard drive and could easily be retrieved with recovery software. So, just because you can't see a file in the directory after it's been deleted doesn't mean that it's not there. This is a security issue most computer users do not take seriously until it's too late.

When files have been deleted or even lost, the Recycle Bin is always the number one place to check. On almost all computer systems, once a file has been deleted this is the place it will end up next.
