When Josh and I had the opportunity through Zions Bank to attend the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University, we jumped at the chance. Jenn and her husband had taken the classes and learned a lot about. We’d also heard about it from other people but were really excited to experience it for ourselves. I can honestly say that it’s even more than I expected. We just finished our 5th class and have already learned so much!
There is so much information that you get from the Financial Peace classes that your brain is kind of ready to explode with all of it. However, it’s so much great information that you can’t wait to put it into use. One of my favorite things is the budget sheets that come in the workbook. I LOVE writing out budgets…hate sticking to them, but I love writing them. I hoping that with everything I’m learning, I’ll be able to change my bad habits and be able to stick to my budget better. It’s also great that with Josh and I going together, we can be on the same page for what we need to do to be financially peaceful. 🙂
How many of us have gotten into this bad habit? Buying things that we THINK will make us happy or feel “included” because we are spending money. I love Dave Ramsey’s idea of FEELING money. It’s a good idea to feel when you are spending money, what you are spending it on and if it’s even worth it in the first place.
As I said before, so far we’ve gotten tons of information…so I’ll just share a few of my favorite highlights from the classes so far.
The videos are awesome. Dave Ramsey is a talented speaker, but he’s also a lot of fun. The humor in each class makes you laugh and helps you feel excited about make positive financial changes and not overwhelmed.
The budget sheets like I said are my favorite. I love that they really thought of everything when creating them. They take into account all the different items that need to be included in budgets as well as blank spaces for anything you might need to add. Also, they have different types of budget sheets depending on how you receive your income and what will work best for your household.
The group atmosphere is so encouraging. You have all different ages, household types, and backgrounds so when people share their stories and successes you get even more inspiration. It feels like you have all this positive support helping you on your journey to financial peace. If you are looking for a class in your area, check here.
My favorite class overall so far has been Dumping Debt. Learning how to use the Debt Snowball Plan to eliminate your debt is such a great idea and it’s easy to follow. List your debts by amount owed from smallest to largest. Start with the smallest and when that is paid off, roll that payment into the next debt, so you are paying more than just the minimum payments. Genius!
I feel like we have so much more to learn, but I’m really excited about implementing what we’ve learned so far to help us become that much closer to being debt free! I’ll be sure to check in a few more times before the classes have ended to let you know how we are doing!

I haven’t gone thru FPU but my sister and brother in-law did and it helped them out a ton! I just finished reading The Total Money Makeover and have started the baby step process.
