How hard is it to pass the CTP exam? ›

It may be comforting for you to know that at least 50% of the candidates who take the exam receive a passing grade! If take the computer-based test, you will receive an unofficial score report immediately after you complete the test.

All candidates must obtain a scaled score of 300 or higher to pass the exam.

The CTP Examination consists of 170 multiple-choice questions and is based on practical concepts and experiences in relation to treasury management. The exam questions are created by treasury and finance practitioners and updated every three years.

Those with the designation tend to earn higher incomes, have greater job security, and are better able to market themselves in the industry. The CTP designation is good for three years and requires recertification.

We suggest you plan on spending at least 4-5 hours with each module or a total of 48 - 60 hours in working through these materials. For those working full-time, taking this course over a 12-week timeframe is usually the best approach.

Exam candidates are allowed to take the exam only once during their scheduled testing window. To retake the exam, you are required to submit a Re-Registration Form for the next testing window. This is a security policy and there are no exceptions to this policy.

Your scheduled test appointment time is four hours, of which you will have three-and-one-half hours to answer 170 questions.

The professional experience requirement to earn the CTP credential is a minimum of two years full-time work experience in a career-based corporate cash/treasury management or corporate finance-related position.

The AFP Exam 1 consists of 105 stand-alone multiple-choice questions, and the AFP Exam 2 contains four case studies with three-five questions each, where candidates must provide a written response to open-ended questions (constructed-response questions).

The ATP CTP consists of 40 hours total training, 30 hours of ground school learning and 10 hours of simulator learning.

Unlike accountants, a certified treasury professional does relatively little tax planning. This is not to say that the CTP doesn't play a role in these fields, but they aren't the profession's emphasis. Instead, the CTP tends to focus on issues such as: Managing the company's cash holdings.

Requirements to Pass the CPT Exam

Scaled test results range from a low of 200 to a high of 500. Since some questions are more difficult than others, they are not all worth the same amount of points. You must score at least 390 on the scale to pass the exam.
