Cruise Insurance Cover Explained
What is a Missed Port?
A missed port is when your cruise ship is unable to make a scheduled port stop due to bad weather or a time-table restriction and the ship is unable to dock at an alternative unscheduled port.
It’s unfortunate that sometimes on cruises that the ship might be unable to stop at the destinations that are scheduled as part of your trip.
If you are not offered financial compensation by the cruise company or on-board credit, then depending on your circ*mstances you may be covered by our cruise holiday insurance.
What is Cabin Confinement?
If you become unwell or injured on your trip, the ship’s medical officer might ask you to remain in your cabin.
They may ask you to do this to keep you safe and help with your recovery.
If this happens then depending on your circ*mstances you may be covered within your cruise cover travel insurance, as explained in the table above in our cruise insurance from the UK policy, for the time you are asked to remain in your cabin.
What Happens if There are Unused Excursions?
If you have any pre-booked or pre-paid excursions that you are unable to participate in due to becoming unwell or injured on your trip and have been asked to remain in your cabin by the ship’s medical officer, then our cruise cover holiday insurance will cover this to the amount highlighted in the table above.
Are There Increased Personal Baggage Limits?
Increased personal baggage limits are an increase in the sums insured for personal possessions up to the amounts shown for cruise cover in the table above.
What if My Evening Wear Gets Stolen?
If your evening wear gets stolen, becomes lost or damaged during your insured trip you will be covered if you buy holiday insurance including cruise cover with us.
Depending on the circ*mstances, we will either cover you for hiring replacement formal evening wear or in cleaning and/or repairing your own formal evening wear.
Add on cruise ship travel insurance allows you to be insured for those extra things that you might not need on a standard trip.
For example if bad weather occurs, and you’re unable to make a scheduled port stop and are unable to go to an alternative port, then cruise travel insurance will cover this.
Cruise cover travel insurance also covers things such as cabin confinement if you are unwell or injured and the ship's medical officer asks you to rest in your cabin.
With all of our cover levels from 3 star to 5 star, you have the option to add on cruise cover, as well as many of our other options, such as gadget cover.
Each of our additional holiday insurance cruise cover options can be added to your holiday insurance through getting a quote online or by giving us a call.
Our travel insurance cruise cover is only available when choosing our single trip policy.
The optional cover will be available to choose when completing your single trip quote.
The earlier you purchase your travel insurance, the more protection you will have from events which can occur before your holiday starts.

Yes, our cruise travel insurance covers all types of cruises, including river cruises. Travel insurance is not only required for cruises abroad, but all domestic cruises within the UK.
Our cruise travel insurance will cover you for most destinations. If the FCDO, World Health Organisation or local authorities have advised against ‘all’ or ‘all but essential’ travel to your destination, then it will not be safe to travel and doing so, would mean that your travel insurance policy would not be valid.
Should you have a medical emergency during your cruises, as long as you have declared any pre-existing medical conditions you will be covered by your travel insurance policy.
