Ready for a smoother way to manage check-ins? Connect a compatible smart lock to Airbnb so that unique codes are automatically generated and shared with your guests.
This is currently available to certain Hosts with listings in the US or Canada. Find out more aboutwhich Hosts are eligible to connect a smart lock to Airbnb.
What happens when you connect a smart lock to Airbnb
Once you’ve connected a smart lock to Airbnb and added it to your listing, your guests for confirmed bookingsthat haven't yet startedand new bookings will automatically receive a unique code that’s only active during their trip. Codes will be sent to guests’ email and Airbnb messages for convenient access and can always be found in their Airbnb trip guide.
With your smart lock connected, we’ll let you know when your guests have checked in for the first time.
How unexpected lock issues are handled
To keep things running smoothly, your connected smart lock will have backup codes that can be shared with a guest in the event that your lock is offline at the time of booking and a code can’t be generated for them before check-in. A backup code may also be shared if your lock is offline when a trip change is made (ex: your guest extends their stay by a night), and their existing code won’t work for their entire stay.
When connecting your smart lock to Airbnb, you’ll add a backup entry method that will only be shared with your guests in the event of unexpected lock issues that prevent them from being able to access your place (ex: dead batteries or a broken keypad).
How you’re still in control of your connected smart lock
Rest assured, the lock is yours. You can still manage and change personal codes from your smart lock app—like those for your cleaner or Co-Hosts—as you’d like, allowing you to host in the way that works best for you. Airbnb can never see any of the codes on your smart lock and will never change personal codes that you've added to your lock.
You also have the flexibility to adjust when guests’ codes are active. If you need to change a guest's code or access after they've checked in, find out how to manage your guests’ smart lock codes.
