How do I check my network connection status? ›

Check for Physical Connectivity Issues

Sometimes, your internet connection can fail due to simple issues like a loose or unplugged network cable, modem, or router. Or, if you're on a wireless network, your computer's wireless network interface card might be turned off.

To change a Wi-Fi network to public or private

Select Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi. On the Wi-Fi settings screen, select Manage known networks, and select the network you're connected to. On the Wi-Fi network screen, under Network profile type, select Public (Recommended) or Private.

Some network problems can arise from faulty hardware, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and even from unexpected usage patterns, like network bandwidth spikes, changes in app configuration, or security breaches.
