Change settings for AirPods Pro 1 and 2 (2024)

On iPhone, iPad, or Mac, you can change the controls for AirPodsPro. For example, you can customize the action performed when you press and hold the force sensor on AirPodsPro1 or Touch control on AirPodsPro2, change your microphone location, turn off automatic ear detection, and more.

Change what the forcesensor or Touch control does

You can change the action performed when you press and hold the stem on your AirPodsPro.

Wear your AirPods, and make sure they’re connected to your device.
Do one of the following:
- iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings ,then tap the name of your AirPods near the top of the screen.
- Mac: Choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click the name of your AirPods in the sidebar.

Choose Left or Right, then choose the action you want performed every time you press and hold the stem.

Change how you end a call and mute yourself with your AirPodsPro

By default, you can double-press the stem on your AirPods to end a call, and press once to mute and unmute. You can switch these actions.

Wear your AirPods, and make sure they’re connected to your device.
Do one of the following:
- iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings ,then tap the name of your AirPods near the top of the screen. Tap End Call or Mute & Unmute, then choose Press Once or Press Twice. The other option automatically switches.
- Mac: Choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click the name of your AirPods in the sidebar. On the right, select an option next to “End call” or “Mute & unmute.” The other option automatically switches.

Set the microphone location for your AirPodsPro

Wear your AirPods, and make sure they’re connected to your device.

Do one of the following:
- iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings ,then tap the name of your AirPods near the top of the screen.
- Mac: Choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click the name of your AirPods in the sidebar.
Select Microphone, then choose one of the following:
- Automatically Switch AirPods: Either of your AirPods can act as the microphone. If you use only one of them, it acts as the microphone.
- Always Left or Always Right: The one you choose becomes the microphone, even if you remove it from your ear or put it in the case.

Turn off automatic ear detection

Your AirPodsPro automatically stop playing audio when you take them off, and resume playback when you put them back on. You can change this setting.

Wear your AirPods, and make sure they’re connected to your device.
Do one of the following:
- iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings ,tap the name of your AirPods near the top of the screen, then turn Automatic Ear Detection on or off.
- Mac: Choose Apple menu > System Settings, click the name of your AirPods in the sidebar, then turn “Automatic ear detection” on or off.

Turn off charging case sounds on AirPodsPro2

Your AirPodsPro2 charging case plays a sound when it pairs, charges, and more. You can turn off these sounds.

Wear your AirPods, and make sure they’re connected to your device.
Do one of the following:
- iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings ,tap the name of your AirPods near the top of the screen, then turn Enable Charging Case Sounds on or off.
- Mac: Choose Apple menu > System Settings, click the name of your AirPods in the sidebar, then turn “Enable charging case sounds” on or off
