SSL certificates cannot be installed on load balancers.
To use SSL certificates, you need to install them on the servers assigned to the load balancer. After the installation of the SSL certificates, the encrypted requests are forwarded by the load balancer to the assigned servers via SSL pass-through. The requests are then decrypted on the servers.
If you forward SSL-encrypted requests to the server using SSL passthrough, the load balancer cannot capture the source IPs of the requests in the log files.
If you use HTTPS (SSL or TLS) for your front-end listener, you must deploy an SSL/TLS certificate on your load balancer. The load balancer uses the certificate to terminate the connection and then decrypt requests from clients before sending them to the instances.
If you register your domain with IONOS, you can take advantage of a free SSL Wildcard certificate, helping you to protect your website visitors and to increase your Google ranking.
Also, note that a single load balancer can hold up to 25 certificates. If you want to use more than 25 certificates you have to select more than one load balancer.
The SSL certificate is now requested from the certificate authority. This checks the identity of the applying company as well as its owner rights to the domain. After successful validation, the certificate is issued to the domain and automatically installed by our system in your webspace.
First, enable SSL in your hosting package by securing your domain with an SSL Certificate. Then, force SSL encryption on all pages by fully switching your site to HTTPS.
Restrictions and Limitations in Certificate Management
While free certificates offer good browser support, they may not match the scale of their commercial counterparts. With paid SSL/TLS certificates, purchasers have full ownership and can install them on any server or hosting provider, granting complete control.
Limited Use – Free SSL certificates are suitable for basic blogging websites with no financial data collection, but they're not ideal for businesses. Dedicated business owners and website owners must go for Organization Validated or Extended Validation certificates instead, to prove their legitimacy.
