What are the disadvantages of Goodbudget? ›

You must manually log expenses

Unlike competitor apps, Goodbudget doesn't provide automatic syncing for an up-to-date view of your bank accounts. You have to track every purchase manually. If you easily forget, your app may not accurately represent your financial situation.

Goodbudget uses many safety features to protect your account and information. The app is secured with 256-bit encryption and does not share your personal information with third parties. And because Goodbudget does not link with bank accounts, it will never have access to your login credentials for these.

How Much Does Goodbudget Cost? Goodbudget offers a completely free version of their budgeting features. They also have a paid version that costs $70 annually.

With Goodbudget's automatic bank syncing feature offered with the Premium plan, you're able to connect your real-life banks with your Goodbudget ones. When you link Accounts, your transactions are automatically imported into Goodbudget for easier tracking.

You can use the free version of Goodbudget for as long as you like. You will never be charged for it.

You enter your income and categorize your expenses into virtual envelopes within the app. Then, you set aside a certain amount of money in each envelope to help you budget. Unlike Mint, Goodbudget doesn't link to your financial accounts for real-time tracking of your finances.

The free version allows only one financial account, and the Plus version allows unlimited accounts. So those who want to monitor their spending from checking or savings accounts, as well as from a credit card, can do so only if they pay for the Plus plan.

Does Goodbudget have good security? ›

Here at Goodbudget, we take the security and privacy of your information very seriously. All data is kept safe with 256-bit bank grade encryption in a secure data center.

“Add budgeted amount” will roll over the leftovers and add the budgeted amount back in, while “Set to budget amount” tops off what's left in your Envelopes to get your Envelope back to exactly full.

For example, if you'd like to set aside $600 this year for holiday gifts, create an Annual Envelope called “Holiday Spending” and give it a budget of $600. With a monthly budget period, Goodbudget will set aside $50 each month.
