Police said Tuesday that Brackenridge Police Chief Justin McIntire was ambushed by suspect Aaron Lamont Swan Jr. in a shooting that left McIntire dead. A Tarentum officer was also shot and injured in Brackenridge following an hours-long search that crossed throughout Allegheny County.The suspect, 28-year-old Aaron Lamont Swan Jr., was shot and killed by Pittsburgh police around 7 p.m. near the intersection of Brushton Avenue and Mohler Street, Allegheny County police said. Swan was wanted on a probation violation. The incident began around 2 p.m. on Monday. Swan first encountered Harrison Township officers. Police chased the suspect on foot for several hours in the vicinity. Around 4:15 p.m., a Brackenridge officer encountered the suspect in the 800 block of Third Street.Two shootings followed this foot chase — one where the suspect was encountered on Third Street and the other several blocks over on Brackenridge Avenue, police said. McIntire was shot and died at the scene. Tarentum Officer Jordan Schrecengost was injured from a gunshot to the leg. He is in good condition at a local hospital.Police said Swan then walked into a home and demanded car keys, taking a 2014 Subaru Legacy from the 1100 block of Pacific Avenue and fleeing the area. The individuals whose car was stolen were not injured. Multiple police departments, including SWAT, responded to the scene, actively searching for Swan, who was considered to be armed and dangerous. According to police, Swan and the stolen vehicle were found in Pittsburgh's Lincoln-Lemington neighborhood. Police located the car, attempted to stop it and a chase ensued. Swan allegedly crashed the car, got out and ran into a nearby wooded area. While attempting to run from the wooded area, Swan allegedly fired at officers. Officers returned fire, hitting the suspect, who died on the scene from his injuries. A Pittsburgh officer sustained a minor injury from what is believed to be shrapnel during that incident.A total of five guns believed to have been used by Swan in this incident were recovered, police said. Four were recovered in Brackenridge and one in Homewood-Brushton.Multiple roads were shut down in Brackenridge in response. Several nearby departments had sent police units as well. Allegheny County Police are still actively investigating.

According to police, Swan and the stolen vehicle were found in Pittsburgh's Lincoln-Lemington neighborhood. Police located the car, attempted to stop it and a chase ensued. Swan allegedly crashed the car, got out and ran into a nearby wooded area.
