Our Expert Take

The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card is packed with premium extras that put it firmly in competition with other top travel rewards cards, but at an annual fee that leaves others far behind (rates & fees). This card is one of the best Capital One credit card options and is worthy of a spot in almost any traveler’s wallet.

Why We Like It

It’s a stiff annual fee, but one that can easily be justified by the $300 annual credit toward bookings made through Capital One and the 10,000-mile annual anniversary bonus, equal to $100 in travel. Plus, cardholders and two guests receive access to airport lounges, including the Priority Pass Network, Plaza Premium Group and the new Capital One Lounges, totaling more than 1,300 locations worldwide.

What We Don’t Like

The only potential snag is that getting the most out of the card requires booking through Capital One Travel. This is the only way to redeem the annual travel credit and the only opportunity to earn elevated rewards on hotels, rental cars and flights.

Who It’s Best For

The Venture X is a fantastic card for almost any traveler, offering outsized benefits in relation to its annual fee. If you’re looking for affordable luxury, the Venture X is the way to go.

Credit Cards and Travel Rewards Expert

If you’re looking for lofty perks without a lofty annual fee (rates & fees), the Venture X fits the bill. While other cards with elite benefits run nearly $700 a year, you’ll only pay a little more than half that for the Venture X. And you’ll still get Capital One and Priority Pass airport lounge access for you and your guests, an annual travel credit and solid earnings on everyday purchases.

Pros & Cons

  • Annual fee lower than others in its category
  • Annual travel credit through Capital One Travel and anniversary miles alone could justify the annual fee
  • Miles are easy to earn and easy to use
  • Lack of domestic airline and upscale hotel travel partners
  • Capital One lounge network in its infancy
  • Lack of hotel status benefits

Card Details

  • Earn 75,000 bonus miles when you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening, equal to $750 in travel
  • Receive a $300 annual credit for bookings through Capital One Travel, where you’ll get Capital One’s best prices on thousands of trip options
  • Get 10,000 bonus miles (equal to $100 towards travel) every year, starting on your first anniversary
  • Earn unlimited 10X miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel and 5X miles on flights and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Travel
  • Earn unlimited 2X miles on all other purchases
  • Unlimited complimentary access for you and two guests to 1,300+ lounges, including Capital One Lounges and the Partner Lounge Network
  • Use your Venture X miles to easily cover travel expenses, including flights, hotels, rental cars and more—you can even transfer your miles to your choice of 15+ travel loyalty programs
  • Enjoy a $100 experience credit and other premium benefits with every hotel and vacation rental booked from the Premier Collection
  • Receive up to a $120 credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck®

Our Expert Take

With a generous welcome bonus, strong rewards and an array of benefits, the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Cardappeals to a variety of travelers.

Why We Like It

You can redeem your miles for travel on the Capital One website, or you may pay for your travel first and then redeem miles as statement credits for eligible travel purchases. You can also transfer your rewards to 15-plus airline and hotel partners. The card also comes with a statement credit to cover the application fees for a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck® application every four years.

What We Don’t Like

The card does have an annual fee (rates & fees), and while this is reasonable given the benefits, it is something to keep in mind. Additionally, to earn more than 2 miles per dollar is to book hotels, vacation rentals or car rentals through Capital One Travel or make purchases through Capital One Entertainment through 12/31/25, and you can’t earn elevated bonus points on flights. The limited-time welcome offer is lucrative, but it does have a high spending requirement to reach, which could be prohibitive for some.

Who It’s Best For

If you’re looking for a card that has great earning potential on everyday purchases, the Venture Rewards card is a solid option. People who want simplicity will appreciate the ease of earning and redeeming Capital One Rewards for travel statement credits or the ability to transfer to several partners.

The Capital One Venture Rewards card is extremely low maintenance as far as travel reward cards go. Pros & Cons

  • Solid rewards rate
  • Global Entry or TSA PreCheck® statement credit (up to $120)

Our Expert Take

Those seeking travel rewards who don’t like annual fees or extra gimmicks will be satisfied with the Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card (rates & fees).

Why We Like It

With no earning caps, the card gets additional value from the myriad extra benefits standard on most Capital One cards. For the casual rewards earner, the appeal may lie in the card’s lack of an annual fee and ability to transfer miles to qualifying partner hotel and airline programs. New cardholders can take advantage of a decent welcome offer and an extended introductory APR period on purchases and balance transfers.

What We Don’t Like

The rewards rate is relatively low compared to other cards, especially considering it requires Excellent, Good credit. Apart from a few travel benefits and mile transfer partners, the VentureOne doesn’t offer many cardholder benefits that make it stand out in relation to its competitors.

Who It’s Best For

Those new to travel rewards cards who want to avoid an annual fee could find value in the VentureOne card, especially given Capital One’s transfer partners.

Our Expert Take

The Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card (rates & fees) is a no annual fee pick for those whose primary focus is on food and experiences.

Why We Like It

The SavorOne’s straightforward structure makes it a tasty alternative for those who spend on food and entertainment but don’t want to pay an annual fee. Entertainment—including amusem*nt park tickets—is a category not often bonused.

However, with the SavorOne, cardholders earn 3% cash back on dining, entertainment, popular streaming services and grocery stores (excluding superstores like Walmart® and Target®), 5% cash back on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, 8% cash back on Capital One Entertainment purchases, and 1% on all other purchases.

You can take advantage of an extended introductory APR period on purchases and balance transfers and an easy-to-earn welcome offer.

What We Don’t Like

Superstores like Walmart® and Target® are excluded from bonus earnings on grocery store spending. Similarly, your favorite streaming service, like Prime Video, might be excluded from earning bonus cash back.

Who It’s Best For

If much of your monthly spending falls under the entertainment and dining categories, the SavorOne card could be a fantastic option.

Pros & Cons

  • No annual fee
  • Increased cash-back rewards on dining and entertainment
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Easy-to-redeem cash-back rewards
  • Introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers
  • Other cards offer higher rewards on dining and groceries
  • Potentially high APR depending on your creditworthiness
  • Limited cash-back reward categories

If you can’t decide between a card with a welcome bonus or an introductory APR offer, the Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card (rates & fees) provides both. This is a winning combination for those planning to finance a purchase for an extended period.

Why We Like It

Apart from the 1.5% cash back on every purchase and 5% cash back on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, the card doesn’t have an annual fee, making it an affordable addition to your wallet.

What We Don’t Like

This card has a few benefits, including extended warranty and $0 fraud liability. These are nice extras, but nearly all direct competitors’ cards have similar perks and features.

Who It’s Best For

The Quicksilver Card is ideal for someone looking for a no-frills cash-back card to finance a large purchase or pay down debt from a high-interest account.

Pros & Cons

Our Expert Take

The Capital One QuicksilverOne Cash Rewards Credit Card is a solid pick for those with fair credit looking to improve their credit score and earn cash-back rewards.

Why We Like It

Although it has an annual fee (rates & fees), it offers a straightforward 1.5% cash back on every purchase and 5% cash back on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel (terms apply) and the possibility of a higher credit line after as little as six months of card membership.

What We Don’t Like

Be aware that, like most credit cards for those with fair credit (or worse), it comes with a higher than average variable APR on purchases. If you typically carry a balance, you’d be better off with a card that has a lower interest rate, even if it doesn’t offer rewards.

Who It’s Best For

If you don’t mind paying the annual fee, the QuicksilverOne is an attractive option for anyone who wants to earn cash back while boosting their credit score.

Pros & Cons

  • Unlimited 1.5% cash-back rewards
  • Fair-to-average credit applicants considered
  • No foreign transaction fee
  • Rewards don’t expire for the life of the account
  • High APR
  • No boosted rate in common spending categories
  • No welcome offer
  • No intro APR offer

Card Details

  • Earn unlimited 1.5% cash back on every purchase, every day
  • No rotating categories or limits to how much you can earn, and cash back doesn’t expire for the life of the account. It’s that simple
  • Be automatically considered for a higher credit line in as little as 6 months
  • Enjoy peace of mind with $0 Fraud Liability so that you won’t be responsible for unauthorized charges
  • Help strengthen your credit for the future with responsible card use
  • Earn unlimited 5% cash back on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, where you’ll get Capital One’s best prices on thousands of trip options. Terms apply
  • Monitor your credit score with CreditWise from Capital One. It’s free for everyone
  • Check out quickly and securely with a contactless card, without touching a terminal or handing your card to a cashier. Just hover your card over a contactless reader, wait for the confirmation, and you’re all set

The Capital One Platinum Credit Card (rates & fees) is designed for those looking to establish or build credit. Most cards aimed at this segment carry annual fees or opening fees or may require a security deposit. This card has none of these drawbacks.

Why We Like It

You can be automatically considered for a higher credit line in as little as six months.

What We Don’t Like

Without a rewards program or other perks, this card has a limited shelf life once your credit improves. There are no introductory APR offers, or a welcome bonus for new cardholders, and the ongoing APR is extremely high.

Who It’s Best For

If you’re looking for a way to build your credit without a security deposit or annual fee in the Capital One family, the Platinum Mastercard is a decent choice.

Pros & Cons

  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Applicants with fair credit may be approved
  • Increased credit line possible in as little as six months
  • Very high variable APR
  • No rewards program
  • No welcome bonus or intro APR offer

Card Details

  • No annual or hidden fees. See if you’re approved in seconds

Our Expert Take

The Capital One Quicksilver Secured Cash Rewards Credit Card, like all secured cards, provides a low-risk way to build credit. The card gets a boost because it offers rewards—not a given with secured cards—but unless you’re trying to stay with Capital One for some reason, better choices are available.

Why We Like It

Like all secured cards, the credit limit is determined by your deposit. You can earn your security deposit back as a statement credit when you use your card responsibly and be considered for a higher credit line in as little as six months with no additional deposit needed.

Once approved, you’ll earn 1.5% cash back on every purchase and 5% cash back on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel.

What We Don’t Like

The variable APR is very high (rates & fees), making it expensive to carry a balance on this card. The minimum refundable security deposit is $200, which can make it inaccessible to some.

Who It’s Best For

The Quicksilver Secured Card is a solid option for someone who is loyal to Capital One, wants to earn cash back, has enough money for a security deposit and is focused on building their credit.

Pros & Cons

  • Unlimited 1.5% cash back reward on all eligible purchases
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Reports to all three credit bureaus
  • Ability to graduate to an unsecured card with good payment behavior
  • No bonus categories other than Capital One Travel bookings
  • $200 minimum opening deposit

Card Details

  • No annual or hidden fees, and you can earn unlimited 1.5% cash back on every purchase, every day. See if you’re approved in seconds
  • Put down a refundable $200 security deposit to get a $200 initial credit line
  • Building your credit? Using a card like this responsibly could help
  • Enjoy peace of mind with $0 Fraud Liability so that you won’t be responsible for unauthorized charges
  • You could earn back your security deposit as a statement credit when you use your card responsibly, like making payments on time
  • Be automatically considered for a higher credit line in as little as 6 months with no additional deposit needed
  • Earn unlimited 5% cash back on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, where you’ll get Capital One’s best prices on thousands of trip options. Terms apply

Our Expert Take

The Capital One Platinum Secured Credit Card provides a decent secured credit card option for those building credit. Though it has no rewards, it also has a $0 annual fee and no foreign transaction fees (rates & fees).

Why We Like It

This is a secured card, so it requires a security deposit. However, security deposits can be as low as $49, making it much more accessible than some other cards on the market. The security deposit may be earned back as a statement credit when you use your card responsibly. Credit reviews are automatic, and you can receive an increase in your credit line in as little as six months.

What We Don’t Like

While the minimum security deposit is accessible, the maximum deposit and credit limit of $1,000 is restrictive. Like with most secured cards, the standard rate APR for this card is extremely high. There are other secured credit cards that earn rewards, so it is a bit disappointing that Platinum Secured cardholders receive limited benefits outside of credit building features.

Who It’s Best For

The Platinum Secured credit card is best for someone who is looking to build their credit and is tight on funds for a security deposit.

Pros & Cons

  • Applicants may be eligible with limited or bad credit
  • No foreign transaction fee
  • No annual fee
  • Reports to all three major credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, Transunion)
  • Security deposit of $49, $99, or $200
  • High APR
  • May not be available to borrowers with seriously damaged credit
  • No rewards program

Card Details

  • No annual or hidden fees. See if you’re approved in seconds

  • Put down a refundable security deposit starting at $49 to get a $200 initial credit line

  • Be automatically considered for a higher credit line in as little as 6 months with no additional deposit needed

Our Expert Take

The Capital One Quicksilver Student Cash Rewards Credit Card (rates & fees) is a solid student card offering decent rewards to those with little or no credit. There are student cards that earn better rewards. But, if you’re loyal to Capital One, this card is a serviceable offer.

Why We Like It

The card gives a whopping 5% back on hotels and car rentals booked through Capital One Travel.

Apart from that bonus category, cardholders earn a flat rate of 1.5% cash back on all eligible purchases, which can be very appealing to a college student starting their credit journey. Many cards require cardholders to keep track of several different categories if they wish to maximize their earnings, which can be confusing for someone new to credit cards.

What We Don’t Like

There’s no introductory APR period, so you can’t use this card to make a big purchase and pay it off over time while avoiding interest. Although the flat-rate cash back on everyday purchases is simple and easy to use, it is somewhat restrictive when considering overall earning potential.

Who It’s Best For

The Quicksilver Student Card is perfect for a college student who wants easy, unlimited cash back on everyday purchases without worrying about bonus categories.

Pros & Cons

  • No foreign transaction fees
  • No annual fee
  • Excellent extra benefits
  • Solid cash-back rewards for a student credit card
  • Other student cards may offer better earning potential

Card Details

  • Earn unlimited 1.5% cash back on every purchase, every day
  • Early Spend Bonus: Earn $50 when you spend $100 in the first three months
  • Enjoy peace of mind with $0 Fraud Liability so that you won’t be responsible for unauthorized charges
  • Enjoy no annual fee, foreign transaction fees, or hidden fees
  • Lock your card in the Capital One Mobile app if it’s misplaced, lost or stolen
  • Earn up to $500 a year by referring friends and family when they’re approved for a Capital One credit card
  • Build your credit with responsible card use
  • Whether you’re at a 4-year university, community college or other higher education institution, this card might be an option for you

Our Expert Take

The benefits, perks and conveniences of the Capital One SavorOne Student Cash Rewards Credit Card are impressive, especially for a student card. The card’s unlimited reward earning potential in several broad, often-used categories and the additional protections available through Mastercard make this card stand out from its peers (rates & fees).

Why We Like It

This card is exclusively for anyone pursuing higher education, whether that’s at a four-year university, community college or other higher education institution. The bonus earning categories are tailored to college students, so it’ll be easy to earn a decent amount of cash back.

You’ll also get 8% back on Capital One Entertainment purchases and 5% back on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel.

What We Don’t Like

The card’s high APR could trip up anyone new to credit and carrying a balance. There also isn’t an introductory APR period, so if you want a card to pay off a large purchase like a laptop or school supplies over time, this isn’t the best option.

Who It’s Best For

The SavorOne Student Card is ideal for any college student interested in maximizing the amount of cash back they can earn. While bonus earning categories can take some getting used to, the long-term result is worth it.

Pros & Cons

  • No annual fee
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Excellent cash back rewards
  • No low introductory APR
  • Limited bonus cash back reward categories

Card Details

  • Earn unlimited 3% cash back on dining, entertainment, popular streaming services and at grocery stores (excluding superstores like Walmart® and Target®), with 1% on all other purchases
