As a newcomer to the town, I am most pleased with the peace and tranquility I feel. I am still unsure about the diversity the town offers.

Berkeley Heights is a nice quiet suburb in North Jersey. It is safe and clean, but there are no real activities or places to visit downtown.

I've lived all over NJ, from the hippest town in Union County to the hippest town in Monmouth County to one of the quietest rural towns in Sussex County. Berkeley Heights is it. I hate rankings like this but it's well deserved. Watchung Reservation is one of the greatest hiking parks in the US. Great Swamp nature preserve. Downtown now vibrant with great food and drink establishments. 10 minutes to Summit or Madison restaurants. Direct trains to Hoboken and the city. 45 minute drive to Manhattan w/o traffic. Trees and protected woodland are everywhere. Modesty everywhere - no one shows off. Good folks everywhere. 3 kids in public schools - teachers excellent, kids excellent. Always voted one of the safest towns in America. BH parents the most gracious fans of the scores of towns we visited. Such a relaxing town. Can drive all over without hitting a light. Quiet, rural, impressive, good natured. Highly recommend as a 10 year resident.
